Wow! Just discovered this adaptation of Anne of Green Gables. Love the illustrations! They speak volumes! This should help young readers discover the delightfulness of Anne without struggling with length.
A lovely early chapter book that stays faithful to the feel of Anne, while successfully adapting it for younger readers. The illustrations add to the charm.
I mean - look at those #endpapers!!!
5 ☆ A fun Penguin First Reader, it covers the first chapter of Anne of Green Gables. Granddaughter is six years old + had very little trouble reading this to me, says she likes it and has already read several times! With it‘s beautiful vintage illustrations and easy phonics it‘s a great introduction for younger children into the world of Anne of Green Gables. We‘re looking forward to the second book “Anne‘s Kindred Spirits” releasing May 17, 2019.
Granddaughter‘s tickled picked up library hold today of Anne Arrives, her first Penguin Young Reader. Here‘s hoping her love of reading continues as she grows older! 💚🍀👧🏼📗🐧

Normally I hate abridged adaptations of classic children‘s book (Don‘t get me started on Great Illustrated Classics), but this one has thawed my heart. The original book has been divided into sections, and the that section made into an early chapter book with great illustrations. It works. The abridger managed to keep Anne‘s heart, Marilla‘s sternness, and Mathew‘s gentleness. It goes from Anne arriving to the apology to Mrs. Lynde.
The illustrations are cute, but I would much rather read the original. Nevertheless, this is a good way to introduce Anne to younger readers. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
