This book was an assignment in my Master‘s program, and I‘m grateful for it. May everyone who reads it have the opportunity to discuss and mull it over with trusted peers. This book has been in my heart and brain, now is the time to heal.

This book is really good, but I have to take it in really slowly - a hard balance to strike when I'm assigned 3-4 chapters a day for my intensive course. 😅 Listening to the audiobook and then rereading in the print book has been helpful for engaging deeply - although, audiobookers be warned, there are a lot of meaty footnotes left out! #DoubleSpin
I‘ve been reading this book s-l-o-w-l-y because the author wants the reader to stop and actually do the practices. There is a lot here about dealing with radicalized trauma, not only for individuals but within communities. Specific practices are for black people, and others for white people. There are several chapters about rethinking how police are trained to deal with trauma as well. ⤵️
I started reading this book several years ago and have recommended it to many, though I continued to read it very slowly. I love how Resmaa Menakem lays out the history of trauma in white bodies that then created white bodied supremacy, and how he gives a path forward for each of us to address that trauma. We must take individual responsibility for addressing our white bodied supremacy and advocate for change—these killings cannot continue.
