A Murder for the Books
A Murder for the Books: A Blue Ridge Library Mystery | Victoria Gilbert
Fleeing a disastrous love affair, university librarian Amy Webber moves in with her aunt in a quiet, historic mountain town in Virginia. She quickly busies herself with managing a charming public library that requires all her attention with its severe lack of funds and overabundance of eccentric patrons. The last thing she needs is a new, available neighbor whose charm lures her into trouble. Dancer-turned-teacher and choreographer Richard Muir inherited the farmhouse next door from his great-uncle, Paul Dassin. But town folklore claims the houses original owner was poisoned by his wife, who was an outsider. It quickly became water under the bridge, until she vanished after her sensational 1925 murder trial. Determined to clear the name of the woman his great-uncle loved, Richard implores Amy to help him investigate the case. Amy is skeptical until their research raises questions about the culpability of the towns leading families... including her own. When inexplicable murders plunge the quiet town into chaos, Amy and Richard must crack open the books to reveal a cruel conspiracy and lay a turbulent past to rest in A Murder for the Books, the first installment of Victoria Gilberts Blue Ridge Library mysteries.

Small town. Librarian. Cozy mystery. All positives. Unfortunately, I didn‘t like the MC. The story was just ok. Nothing special. At least it‘s another book off my shelf.

Finally!! I found one that fits the prompt. An ebook that‘s on my #Scarathlon long list. It just got moved up to “current read”. 😉

A series featuring a small town librarian who solves mysteries? Yes, please.

⭐️⭐️

This was subpar.I didn't have high expectations for a cozy mysteries.

I couldn't stand Amy. She is ridiculous with the back and forth on her relationship with Richard. She feels she is not good enough for him because she's overweight and he's hot. Snore.

Apparently I read this four years ago according to Goodreads. I only remember the plot from the past (a long ago murder is part of the book), so I assumed I‘d read a similar plot in another book. I remember none of the many characters and nothing that happened in the present.

This is the first in the series and I really enjoyed. The murders were very well done. I'm really looking forward the next book in the series

Book #1 for a little weekend getaway...”A Murder for the Books”. Up next, “ The Q”.
I am loving this one so far!
How many books do you take with you when you travel?

DocBrown Too many! I always regret dragging around extra books on trips. I have high expectations that I never live up to, and books are heavy and take up a lot of space! 6y
Love2read2 Depends on the trip I guess. I always try to estimate how many books I could read during the trip (even before I do my luggage😅) 6y
Libby1 I always bring at least one more than I think would be humanly possible to read over the time I‘ll be away! 😊 6y

BethM I'm with @Libby1 ! 6y
Lynnsoprano If it‘s a long trip, one physical chunkster plus my Kindle, which is overloaded😄 6y
TheRiehlDeal I always bring my Kindle on road trips. It's convenient. Also, I've got a Paperwhite, so the back-lit display is nice to have when reading in the dark. 6y
UCLAoso I'm with @Love2read2 it depends on the trip (and mode of transportation). I ran out of books (and left my Kindle home) on my last vacation so I had to read through the kindle app on my phone! #rookiemistake 6y

Unlike @Pamwurtzler I was into this mystery at the beginning and didn‘t find it clunky until the end. Set in a small Virginia town, old secrets begin to bubble to the surface leading to a murder in the library. Solidly enjoyable with characters I would read about again! 3 ⭐️

Pamwurtzler Glad you liked it! 6y

I‘ll give this a solid okay rating. It seemed a little clunky at first and I had a hard time paying attention to it, but it got better as it went along.
