Yep, just go ahead and drop that lit cigarette wherever you want in this horse barn. Barns aren‘t usually filled with highly flammable materials or anything 😏 Nobody else in this scene was all that concerned.

So far, I‘m really liking this comic. I‘m especially enjoying the freedom the artist uses to structure pages and panels in the most engaging way for different parts of the story, like this one. #comic

Some slightly darker comics fare for #ripxiv
I first read vol 1 of Monstress when it came out but didn‘t continue and I was thrilled to find the three volumes at the library. Abbott is set in 1972 Detroit and has a reporter investigating grisly crimes. I read previous volumes of X-23 and was surprised to see that this one is by Marino Tamaki. A new series? A reboot? Honestly I can never keep up with comics but I‘m just happy to start reading it

I'm at 5 hours and 40 minutes so far for the #24B4Monday #readathon.

I really enjoyed this supernatural noir story set in 1970's Detroit. It has great characters, nice artwork and an atmospheric setting. It deserves its place on the Hugo Best Graphic Story shortlist this year. #hugo2019

Loved this! Elena is a tough, smart, bi-sexual black woman making it as a journalist in 1972 in Detroit. But not only does she battle racism and sexism, but the supernatural as well. Loved the art and really enjoyed the story. I hope there‘s another volume!

I tried not to borrow anything on today‘s library run, but ABBOTT leaped out at me and things snowballed from there.

The knitting book‘s got some good sock patterns in it. My favourite one is written for huge feet, unfortunately, but there‘s another I‘ll probably take a stab at.

Set in Detroit in the early 70‘s, this horror mystery is gripping. Supernatural mischief is running amok and Elena Abbott is the only one who notices (and can stop it). Touches on racism, sexism, and classism. Good writing and characters. Will definitely read more of this series.

I haven‘t been following many graphic novels lately, so I hadn‘t heard of this before I saw it featured on a Made in Michigan shelf at the bookstore. The next time I was at the library I decided to check it out, and I immediately fell in love. Abbott is a fantastic character, the detective/horror story is gripping, the 1972 Detroit setting is perfect for its themes, the illustrations are consistently great and THOSE COLORS! SO GORGEOUS!

When the body of a mutilated horse turns up, Elena Abbott knows it wasn‘t the Black Panthers, even though the police claim it was. She chases down the stories the police don‘t want told. It‘s 1973, she‘s black, female, bisexual and knows the supernatural is real. The clock is ticking and someone wants Elena out the picture, permanently.

I finally caught up on this 5-part series and whoa, what a ride this was. Abbott is intense and powerful and the characters are incredibly fascinating. I love well-told stories about badass journalists and to count Abbott among them is an understatement. The supernatural elements were creepy AF and srsly, most intriguing character goes to Sebastian. A+, will re-read! #comics
