My first true crime book that I read. I was worried it was going to be boring, but it was the exact opposite. I couldn‘t believe the things the FBI let slide, and how easy it was for Bulger to manipulate and hurt people. A truly bizarre tale.

Interesting read about corruption of the FBI in the 70s and 80s. Book was written 20 years ago so you'll have to research the rest of the story after you finish.

I really thought I was going to enjoy this more than I did. Too much detail maybe 🤷‍♀️ #doublespin for September @TheAromaofBooks

TheNeverendingTBR Never read this, although I've seen the movie and it was pretty poor! 😏 4y
TheAromaofBooks At least it's off the list!! 4y

The story of the dark deal struck between John Connolly of the FBI and Boston crime boss James “Whitey” Bulger. It‘s also a look at how loyalties and ties between residents in the community of South Boston supercede the law. I liked the book, but this is one of the very few times when you will hear me say “The movie was better.” And not just because of Johnny Depp. 3 stars

vivastory I really liked this movie. 6y
Amiable @vivastory Johnny Depp was soooo good as Whitey Bulger 6y
Samplergal Well maybe partly due to Johnny Depp! 😆 6y
claffy_reads I would love for a new edition to be released that includes his capture, trial, incarceration, and murder. The last few years have been pretty karmic for this scumbag. 6y
Amiable @callielafleur I said the same thing to my husband--it's time for an updated epilogue! 6y

#septphotochallenge book and drink. I was incredibly disappointed in this book and could not get all the way through. The story was slow and meandering not at all as dynamic as it was in real life. Unfortunately, the movie adaptation is a pretty fair representation. It sits in my work cabinet in the event of book desperation at lunch. @TheSpinecrackersBookClub

These were FREE on the side of the road! Along with so many others... Hopefully the weather stays good and they don't leave the rest outside...

MrBook Nice stack! And free?! Lucky. 8y
