pickThis book was fantastic! It covers women from all over the world who did amazing things throughout history. Some were champions for civil rights, some were explorers or warriors, some were infamous for their conniving ways, and all are inspirational. The book is separated by maturity level, so my little one and I had some fun reading the “PG” section together, while I read all the way to the end on my own. An excellent book, I highly recommend it.
pickI didn't like this quite as much as Rejected Princesses, but it is worth reading to learn about lots of tough ladies.
Olympias of Macedon (375-316 BCE, Greece); "The Mom Who Made Alexander Great".
Yeah. THAT Alexander. Olympias was his mom. The reason why he was as great as he was is because she fought tooth and nail to solidify his place as heir to the throne, dealt with international diplomacy & domestic policy while he ruled, and fought to the death (literally) to maintain her family's claim to the throne after his death. Alex wouldn't be The Great w/o her.
Molly Craig (1917-2004, Australia); "The Mother Who Walked Across Australia--Twice". Back in 1930s AU, the govt decided to kidnap all mixed-race Aboriginal children, raise them in "reeducation camps" aka prison camps, and train them as domestic servants. Molly Craig, a mixed race Aboriginal girl, was kidnapped, but she escaped. Which never happened. It was huge news. She got back to her fam, years later got kidnapped AGAIN, and escaped AGAIN! ⬇️
UM I DID NOT KNOW THAT REJECTED PRINCESSES CAME OUT WITH ANOTHER BOOK. And this one is all about mothers!!!!!!!! Just in time for Mother's Day!!
