A short, historical romance about a writer in 1920s London trying to get the most out of life. An affair with a famous author after writing a scathing review of his book becomes an education in rebellion and following her heart.

Flashback to this morning, when I started THE PERILOUS LIFE OF JADE YEO at breakfast. It was a great mix of delightful narrative voice and serious issues, all presented in a compact package. I‘m glad I made time for it.

Ah no. Safe to say I read this only to tick a box on a tricky Read Harder prompt and it has left me very grumpy, despite the fact it was only 80 pages.
I will be avoiding all Romance in future Read Harder challenges.
Zen Cho‘s writing is as original and quirky as her heroine, and this charming little story, which manages to pack a heck of a lot into only a few pages, is sharply funny, honest, and whimsical. There are shades of Heyer, of course, but it‘s Heyer with people of color! & bluntness about sex! & colonialism! & gender relations! All through a fresh and much-appreciated lens that is entirely Cho‘s own.
4/5
I found this novella about a writer, Jade Yeo, living in London during the roaring twenties absolutely charming. It‘s short so there‘s no real character development or much conflict in the plot, but what I adored was the heroine. Sassy, funny, independent and clever – Jade‘s voice made this a fun and refreshing read.

Well, looks like my #TBRBingo card is moving faster than it ever did in months. And yes, l've started filling up the Fall/Winter card
Absolutely adorable!
I love Geok Huay (Jade), with her pragmatisn and her candid sincery. She's such an unconventional heroine.
The story is quite simple, but is told with such spank and sparkles that that alone is worth the experience.
I loved it. Utterly loved it.
The author's other stories were already in my TBR but now they are fast climbing to the top.

Started this today and it's a very good start.

Quick, interesting novella that was recommended in the comments on @bookriot for colonial/post colonial - which I admit I still don‘t totally understanding what that is suppose to be. This has a fun, sassy heroine and a shy hero. It‘s a fast paced story that‘s quite entertaining. Definitely recommend. #readwomen #diversebooks

3.5 ⭐️ Very cute! I smirked and chuckled my way through this entertaining novella. Available free on the author's website, it's definitely worth a read. I think the way that Jade talks about her aunt is my favorite part. Excited to read more Cho!
While I wait for my Sorcerer to the Crown hold to come through at the library, I'm checking out this novella for free at zencho.org. Fun so far!
