Keep Marching
Keep Marching: How Every Woman Can Take Action and Change Our World | Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner
8 posts | 2 read | 26 to read
Women are rising with strength, resilience, and courage. For the first time in history, women are 50 percent of our work force. Keep Marching is a practical guide for building women's power and leadership that offers a personal, persuasive, and highly-researched examination of the institutional, economical, and political barriers that hold women back. Author Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner-the executive director of MomsRising, a speaker at the 2017 Women's March in Washington, D.C., and an effective advocate for more than two decades-offers compelling data, timeless tools, thought-provoking stories, and inspiration for how women can create change in their everyday lives and communities-and in the country as a whole. Keep Marching offers proven tactics, policy solutions, and strategies any woman can use to build her power. For example, did you know that: If a group includes more women, its collective intelligence rises? Women still don't make equal pay for equal work? The U.S. doesn't have paid family/medical leave but 177 other countries do? One in three women have experienced some form of sexual assault? Enough is enough! Keep Marching offers groundbreaking solutions-and more-to the hurdles that women in America face every day. This book calls on all badass women for justice to come together and rise. All of this book's proceeds will be donated to MomsRising, a nonprofit organization advocating for women's rights.

A clip from a Time article on the origins of Take Your Daughter to Work Day. Women (and girls) have to actively lift up other women (and girls). It‘s not a competition. If we don‘t help each other, they‘ll tear us apart. http://time.com/4753128/take-your-our-daughters-to-work-day-history/

Whimsical.Curiosity Oh my gosh!! Elizabeth Warren. I dearly love her and her dedication. I was at the March on DC wearing my pink hat and loving all the women around me. Such a great experience. Love the giveaway and the chance! Thanks so much! Also, that mask is my jammy jam. 😘❤️🦖 6y
silentrequiem Deb Haaland! She's running for Congress here in New Mexico and won the Democratic nomination. If she were elected, she'd be the first Native American woman in the Congress. And she's awesome! 6y

Were you fired up in November 2016? Did you make some calls, and then become less active over time? Does this make you feel bad? Here‘s the book to get you fired up and fighting for your causes again. Rowe-Finkbeiner lays out the whys of getting involved, covering at least a dozen issues. Then she gives you easy action steps! She also tells stories of real women affected by injustice.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Five million children. My heart is so heavy after reading this. She goes on to say that the city of Boston includes five million people. So, imagine an entire city of children, living in constant fear. Heartbreaking and authoritarian.

Tjackson This is very sad, just heartbreaking. 7y
Dolly This is not the country I thought I knew 7y
Suet624 I‘m heartbroken and must find some way to protest this. 7y

BarbaraTheBibliophage @Suet624 @Tjackson @Dolly After the heartbreak, the good part is that the author makes LOTS of concrete suggestions for constructive protest. 7y
Tjackson @BarbaraTheBibliophage I just added to my stack. Fits perfectly with the book I am ready by Gloria Steinem. 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Tjackson I have that Steinem book on my shelf. Maybe I should read it next! We‘d be having a reserve readalong. 😎 7y

I‘m not very far into this book, but I‘ve been highlighting a LOT. The author pulls in many statistics that have left me gobsmacked.

Leftcoastzen I love to see that in cold hard type! So many people don‘t GET this. 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Leftcoastzen I‘m sending this image to my business-owning friend. He‘s always defending his right to keep wages low. Now I have the comeback! 7y
Aimeesue Barbara Ehrenreich's Nickel and Dimed does a great job of showing what trying to live on minimum wage jobs does to people. Honestly, it's exhausting and horrible. 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Aimeesue I have that one on my shelf too. This one is about fighting the injustice also, which I imagine must seem overwhelming. 7y

BarbaraTheBibliophage @Eggbeater I‘d rather not need them, but such is life in 2018. I have a whole section on my blog called “resist.” http://thebibliophage.com/about/resist/ 😍 7y
