The Bitter Twins (The Winnowing Flame Trilogy 2)
The Bitter Twins (The Winnowing Flame Trilogy 2) | Jen Williams
22 posts | 10 read | 6 to read
From Jen Williams, highly acclaimed author of the Copper Cat trilogy and three-time British Fantasy Award finalist, comes the second novel in the electrifying Winnowing Flame trilogy - the sequel to The Ninth Rain. Epic fantasy for fans of Robin Hobb and Adrian Tchaikovsky. 'Fantasy adventure at its very best' Starburst 'Williams excels at eldritch world-building' Guardian The Ninth Rain has fallen. The Jure'lia are awake. Nothing can be the same again. Tormalin the Oathless and the fell-witch Noon have their work cut out rallying the first war-beasts to be born in Ebora for three centuries. But these are not the great winged warriors of old. Hatched too soon and with no memory of their past incarnations, these onetime defenders of Sarn can barely stop bickering, let alone face an ancient enemy who grow stronger each day. The key to uniting them, according to the scholar Vintage, may lie in a part of Sarn no one really believes exists - a distant island, mysteriously connected to the fate of two legendary Eborans who disappeared long ago. But finding it will mean a perilous journey in a time of war, while new monsters lie in wait for those left behind. Join the heroes of THE NINTH RAIN as they battle a terrible evil, the likes of which Sarn has never known. What readers are saying about THE BITTER TWINS: 'The sequel to the brilliant Ninth Rain kicks it up a notch with more action, scarier monsters and a more expansive story' 'Be ready for some great reveals and twists that may break your heart, but that will overall leave you fist pumping the air' 'The world building continues to blow my mind'

It took me a long time to connect with THE NINTH RAIN, the first book in the Winnowing Flame Trilogy, but I‘ve been hard into THE BITTER TWINS from the start. The world‘s interesting, I‘m invested in everyone‘s storylines, and the danger level is intense. Gimme more.

Please note, also, my winged pig. It makes for a very unconventional sort of war-beast.

Had to share my dragon themed puzzle I finished today to go along with this epic read! This is book 2 in The Winnowing Flame Trilogy, so I‘m not going to share details as they will spoil book 1. What I will say this series is excellent, with both great world building and character development. This book is heavy on characters, but there is still plenty of action. I look forward to getting to book 3! 5⭐️

The book may be over but there is still further story to tell. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book. This has been a great read. Loved the characters and the storyline.

Tonight I hope to find out a few answers to some seriously odd questions... I‘m feeling a little lost and excited all at once with this second book. I‘m sure it will all make sense soon Hestillion‘s storyline has me totally on edge... what on earth is her part in all of this 😮

Here we go again🙄🤣
As the first book drew me in, this one is the same. I‘m hooked and can‘t put this book down 😄🤭📖☕️

I have definitely missed Noon and Tor, but things seem to have changed...
I‘m not sure if it‘s the gift of a new Kindle or the book itself, (obviously the latter😝) but I think it‘s going to be another late night. 📖☕️📚📗

Just as good if not better on second reading. So many things are carefully seeded (I‘m terrible at spotting that first time out), and if the pace accelerates a little too fast in the final act the emotional rollercoaster had me in its claws so I don‘t really care.

I accidentally a bookshop today after working 2+ hours more than usual. Between that and my BSc graduation on Friday, and an unexpected £10 reward on my Waterstones card, I deserved these... Right?

SO FRICKING GOOD! Second books can be tricky, but The Bitter Twins just kept getting better and better. The stakes became higher, difficult decisions had to be made, things started to fray around the edges, and a fascinating antagonist has emerged. Loved it!

imyril I loved this. I can‘t wait to reread it (rereading The Ninth Rain and then this to be ready for The Poison Song. Who am I kidding. I suspect I‘ll never be ready for The Poison Song) 6y
Lucy_Anywhere @imyril I'm desperate to read The Poison Song! Such a good fantasy trilogy, and it seems so under the radar 6y
imyril @Lucy_Anywhere it definitely deserves a higher profile! 6y

A warbeastastic piece of fantasy with sci fi edges , despite being the middle of a trilogy this is the best fantasy book 2 I've read since The Scar . Also top queer rep so thumbs way up.
