Entry Island
Entry Island | Peter May
Marilyn Stasio in The New York Times raved: "Peter May is a writer I'd follow to the ends of the earth." Now Peter May takes us to a small island off the coast of Qubec with an emotionally charged new mystery. When a murder rocks the isolated community of Entry Island, insomniac homicide detective Sime Mackenzie boards a light aircraft at St. Hubert airfield bound for the small, scattered chain of Madeline Islands, in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, as part of an eight-officer investigation team from Montral. Only two kilometers wide and three long, Entry Island is home to a population of just more than 100 inhabitants, the wealthiest of whom has just been discovered murdered in his home. Covered in her husband's blood, the dead man's melancholy wife spins a tale for the police about a masked intruder armed with a knife. The investigation appears to be little more than a formality--the evidence points to a crime of passion, implicating the wife. But Sime is electrified by the widow during his interview, convinced that he has met her before, even though this is clearly impossible. Haunted by this strange certainty, Sime's insomnia is punctuated by vivid, hallucinatory dreams of a distant past on a Scottish island 3,000 miles away, dreams in which he and the widow play leading roles. Sime's conviction soon becomes an obsession. And despite mounting evidence of the woman's guilt, he finds himself convinced of her innocence, leading to a conflict between the professional duty he must fulfill and the personal destiny he is increasingly sure awaits him.

My first Peter May, but it won‘t be my last! This was excellent and I highly recommend. Realized after I finished that it fits for #TBRtarot as well - based on true events (at least partly), as much of it is set during the Highland Clearances in the 19th century (a horrible part of history that I didn‘t know much about). Great murder mystery but so much more.

Another terrific read from Peter May. His Lewis trilogy is on the horizon for me. Peter‘s books are intense in their sense of place, and often dark, but there‘s hope and love as well. A splendid standalone mystery set in the Magdalen islands of Canada and the Hebrides in Scotland. Definitely recommend if you enjoy literary mysteries.

I really enjoyed my first Peter May! An intriguing murder mystery, but the historical fiction part about Scotland and Scottish ancestry was the cherry on top! I immediately liked the protagonist and I am sad to say this is a stand-alone. The setting is magnificent, and I thoroughly recommend this book! I learned a lot, and the small Canadian islands are somehow so exotic to me. 4,5 stars.

rabbitprincess This is my favourite Peter May! 😊 Glad you liked it! 6y

Gone with the maple leaf of Canada and my favourite Peter May standalone. Not read this book, what are you waiting for! Read it now! Love the link to the Scottish Highland clearances, the story of the early settlement of Canada and a current murder mystery thrown in too!

One of my favourite books that takes in one of Canada‘s islands as well as the mainland. A great mystery that also gives you a feeling for Canada in it‘s early years. Totally recommended!

Entry Island by Peter May is one of my favourite books #SetOnAnIsland (although some of it also takes place on the Canadian mainland), I would also have to mention Peter May‘s brilliant Lewis Island Trilogy. All of these are cracking reads ❤️ #MarchInBooks #SetOnIsland

rabbitprincess This is my favourite Peter May so far! As a Canadian I strongly approve of his choice of setting 😄 7y
Andrew65 @rabbitprincess I truly loved this book, and don‘t read enough set in Canada. I loved the historical aspect linked to Canada in this one. 7y

Mycket bra!

Asaja Jag hann bara 10 sidor innan min läsplatta pajade. Känner mig handikappad utan den! 7y
