6 posts | 4 read | 7 to read
The riveting trilogy that began with The Waking Land returns featuring a new narrator: a young man with secret magical powers who's ready to continue a revolution. The land has awoken, and news of magic's rebirth has traveled across the sea. Jahan, a daring noble who has been concealing his powers, is finally ready to stop hiding. Now he returns to the imperial capital, where the use of magic carries a death sentence. There, he must face his dark past, learn to embrace his gifts, and prevent an all-out war across the kingdoms.

I loved The Waking Land and really enjoyed the intro of this follow up, but was disappointed when I realized that the entire book was a new perspective. I haven‘t picked it up since. I miss my plant witch!

DGRachel Oh no! I loved the first one, too,but haven‘t gotten to the sequel, yet. 😔 6y
TheBookAddict What‘s the title of the first book? 6y
Sweetkokoro When you say new perspective, do you mean it‘s the same story just being told by some else, or does it completely veer off from the 1st book and create a new story? I was looking into these books earlier. 6y

Linsy @Sweetkokoro It‘s a continuation of the same story, just told from another main character‘s POV. 6y
Linsy @DGRachel To be honest, it‘s probably great, I just had the idea of it built up in my head so much. I like sticking with the same POV. 6y
Sweetkokoro @linsy Ah okay, I totally understand getting attached to a main character and then it changing in a follow up book and it not always sitting well. Thanks for the insight on the books. 6y
TheBookAddict Thanks, I‘ll have to check it out. 6y

Can't really review this book as I didn't finish it, but after 120 pages in I decided it just wasn't worth my time. Extremely dull. It had the politics of Game of Thrones without anything remotely interesting. Total snooze fest. It claimed to involve people who knew how to use magic, but magic was only used within the first 5 pages. 120 pages of some weird witch lady whispering "Jahan" inside the main character's head just got really annoying.

B&N #bookhaul! I loved The Waking Land and can‘t wait to start book #2. Sparrow Hill Road was recommended to me by the Assistant Store Manager based on my other purchases and I‘m crossing my fingers for Florida. I‘m not usually a fan of short story collections, but I‘m a little homesick 😊

Super excited! I won an ARC of The Waking Land last year, enjoyed it so much that I bought a finished hard cover and now the sequel is coming in June. Woohoo!! The cover is gorgeous. 😍😍
