I enjoyed this far more than I expected to honestly, a fairly fast paced train heist adventure set just years after the Canadian railway was finished, with era appropriate racism and sexism none the less (none of it shown in a kind or forgiving light, which was pleasantly surprising in a novel intended for children)

I only had 2 books to read for my #BookSpinBingo card in March. They‘ll both be carryover titles for April.
I also read 18 books for #MiddleGradeMarchThroughTime. I enjoyed them and was happy to clear so many books off my owned TBR list.

megnews I loved the Phantom Tollbooth when I read it last year and couldn‘t believe I was just getting to it. I LOVED the Anastasia Krupnik series as a kid. 3y

Will's father is the conductor of the boundless. After getting a hold of a key to a mystery car on the train, the breaks people are trying to steal the key by hunting down Will. Will joins the circus to hide from the breaks people and to get back to first class but the circus isn't what it seems.

Very sweet, very Canadian, and very charming. Lots of adventure with little pockets of magic throughout. Pacing was excellent! It had a great build up and amped up the intensity throughout. Overall a wonderful book.

Reading this one to our daughter. Very Canadian, which I ❤️! And there are Sasquatch in it, which fascinates me. On holiday and the ocean is my happy place. #readthenorth

I absolutely murdered my TBR this month: I got through almost every single book and I at least started all of them. Even though I read a lot, nothing really blew me away. My favorite was The Boundless by Kenneth Oppel, but I also enjoyed a book I read for work called The Servant by James Hunter. I also started A Darker Shade of Magic, which is very good, but I didn't have time to finish it this month. Ratings in the comments if you're interested!

My youngest has Tourette's syndrome. The tics and comorbid disorders make reading a challenge. Which makes him reluctant. Our new deal is, that for every page he reads he buys 2 minutes of video game time. It took awhile to find an inspiring reward. I hope, one day, he finds the reading in itself rewarding.

ValerieAndBooks I'm glad you're trying to get him into reading 💕 7y

Before bed reading outside with the little. I love summer evenings. We're really enjoying this one. It's starts during the hammering of The Last Spike and it's full of magic, the circus and Sasquatch.

scripturient Haha, you're preparing for bed and we just got up. 👍🏻😁 7y

I read this fantastic book with my 9 year old son to discuss with our homeschool group's book club. It takes place just after the completion of the Canadian transcontinental railroad. But rather than being a typical historical fiction, it leaps from its basis in history and becomes part mystery, part adventure, and part fantasy with a little coming of age and a bit of first love thrown in (9 year old not a fan!). A really exciting ride!

This book really does have it all: a train, a circus, Sasquatches, a heist, murders, and more. It's a fun adventure story with loveable characters and a gripping plot. I especially appreciate how the main character is a boy who's the shy, artistic type but can still handle himself in an adventure.
