I'd recommend this book to anyone from older children to adults. It is about the author's mother and aunts' escape from the boarding school for mixed-race children to which they were taken against their parents' will. They trekked 1,600 km home along the rabbit-proof fence of the title. An amazing feat.

so-soI wanted to enjoy this and i did enjoy it more than the other book i read this year that was set in australia. Its hard to get into and the history for most of the book seems disjointed from the rest.

pickWhat an amazing story of courage and determination. Pilkington gives tells of the events surrounding the white invasion of the region, and the impact on the local people, culminating in the removal of their children. Molly, Gracie and Daisy have no intention of staying in the terrible conditions, and escape, setting off on a harrowing journey on foot back to their families.
Summer colds are the worst, and I'm hunkered down with lots of tea tree oil and tissues. I'm hoping it doesn't impact my planned weekend reading too much. This one is first cab off the rank.

panI picked this up as part of my #IndigenousPeoples Month #TBR and while the story itself is amazing, the writing is very lackluster. I was really disappointed that the author didn't write more about their time in the bush, even more disappointed that she seemed to glaze over the most important parts and then rushed through the ending.
pickPicked this up when Doris recently passed. A brilliant book about subverting fences in the age of border build-up. It was both a lesson in courage and a reminder of how powerful it is to remember stories as a living force and to retell them again and again.
