House Next Door: A Ghost Story
House Next Door: A Ghost Story | Darcy Coates
8 posts | 17 read | 12 to read
I live next to a haunted house. I began to suspect something was wrong with the gothic building when its family fled in the middle of the night, the children screaming, the mother crying. They never came back to pack up their furniture. No family stays long. Animals avoid the place. Once, I thought I saw a woman's silhouette pacing through the upstairs room... but that seems impossible; no one was living there at the time. A new occupant, Anna, has just moved in. I paid her a visit to warn her about the building. I didn't expect us to become friends, but we did. And now that Marwick House is waking up, she's asked me to stay with her. I never intended to become involved with the building or its vengeful, dead inhabitant. But now I have to save Anna... before it's too late for the both of us.

Did I buy with 1-click for 99 cents, but really free because I had a credit, yet another Darcy Coates book?

Y‘all know I am addicted to ghost stories. This had some nice twists and the MC didn‘t live in the haunted house which was a nice change of pace. She did, of course, bear witness to all the strange occurrences happening next door.

blithebuoyant I read a book like this years and years ago, I wonder if it‘s the same one 6y
IheartYA I'm a sucker for ghost stories, too! 6y
JoScho @IheartYA yeah they are just entertaining! 6y

I‘ve got my evening planned. These are a few of my favorite things: books, yarn, and tentacle crochet hooks!

I finally picked up my kindle and read my first e book!! I read this in two days and it was a nice lighter spooky story. There might of been a couple of times when I wanted to yell at the MC because I figured out something before her. A creepy house that can never keep tenants in it for very long is bought by a single woman. The neighbors becomes friends with her and tries to help her with the haunting.

This is the last book I have by Darcy Coates. I don‘t know if I‘m buying more of her books but for now I‘m just going to read this and see where things go

This was a fun, quick read. Some of the descriptions toward the end were satisfyingly chill inducing.

BookwormM My husband loved her short horror stories but hated the novels can anyone suggest similar short story writers for him? 7y
JoScho @BookwormM unfortunately I don‘t read many short stories so I can‘t be of much help. 7y

The first ghost story I‘ve read in some time, and while I liked the characters well enough, I was never too scared for them or too involved / invested in the tale. I saw some of the twists coming but not some of the others, so I can‘t blame predictability for my lack of absorption in this story. Not yet sure if I‘ll read more from this author or not.
