How to Get Sh*t Done
How to Get Sh*t Done: Why Women Need to Stop Doing Everything So They Can Achieve Anything | Erin Falconer
9 posts | 4 read | 3 reading | 7 to read
Erin Falconer, editor in chief and co-owner of the highly respected self-improvement site Pick the Brain (with over 1.8 million monthly page views), shows overscheduled, overwhelmed women how to do less so that they can achieve more. Women live in a state of constant guilt: that we’re not doing enough, that we’re not good enough, that we can’t keep up. If we’re not climbing the corporate ladder, building our side hustle, preparing home-cooked meals, tucking the kids in at night, meditating daily, and scheduling playdates, date nights, and girls’ nights every week, we feel like we’re not living our best lives. Yet traditional productivity books—written by men—barely touch the tangle of cultural pressures that women feel when facing down a to-do list. Finally, in the first productivity book by a woman in a decade, Erin Falconer will show you how to do less—a lot less. In fact, How to Get Sh*t Done will teach you how to zero in on the three areas of your life where you want to excel, and then it will show you how to off-load, outsource, or just stop giving a damn about the rest. As the founder of two technology start-ups and one of Refinery29’s Top 10 Women Changing the Digital Landscape for Good, Erin has seen what happens when women chase an outdated, patriarchal model of productivity, and in How to Get Sh*t Done she shows how even the most perfectionistic among us can tap into our inner free spirit and learn to feel like badasses, rather than drudges. Packed with real-life advice, honest stories from Erin’s successful career, and dozens of actionable resources, How to Get Sh*t Done will forever reframe productivity so that you can stop doing everything for everyone and start doing what matters to you.

I love that is empowering woman to sort out and organise our day to day lives. It's gives insight on things we overlook. She provides us with tools and lists almost homework to do.. It's definitely a life changer and a new look on how to manage my time everyday and make more time for things that matter and bring me joy.

Erin wants us to accomplish more by having 3 big goals at a time and dropping unnecessary things to accomplish them. Listing apps & services to outsource laundry and food so you could get to the gym does not work for me. Or getting an uber so you can spend sometime in a call 🤔. (Perhaps) I could do those things when I have a lot of disposable income. I felt too working class for this book which feels like the case for a lot of self help books.

Notafraidofwords Side note: she has this really passive aggressive way to tell people that they need to go to the gym. Every reference was about working out. Like wha????! Oh and some odd article about fatness being contagious. 😡 6y
kgriffith NOPE. 6y
Notafraidofwords @kgriffith exactly. And I feel so bad because I know how hard writing is, but girl. 6y

saresmoore Eww 6y
kgriffith @Notafraidofwords I also noped outta Marie Kwondo‘s self-flagellating magic of being condescending. 6y
Notafraidofwords @saresmoore yes. Most of these self help books really distribute dangerous stereotypes about women and I think this one does too. 6y
merelybookish Sounds infuriating. I find the advice to use more apps pretty pointless. Most of us don't need more digital stuff to deal with! 6y
Notafraidofwords @merelybookish agree. Plus apps like uber, Lyft and instacart is An expense. 6y
JSW Ughhhhh. 😑😑 6y
saresmoore @kgriffith Best alternate title ever! It‘s annoying, too, because I‘ve implemented several of her tidying principles (I skimmed the book, big time) and they really have improved my life. 6y
readordierachel That all reeks of privilege. Who has the time and money to do that?? 6y
Notafraidofwords @readordierachel honestly, I don‘t. I have to work really hard just to cover necessities. 6y
