The End
The End | Salvatore Scibona
8 posts | 4 read | 2 to read
An incredible debut and National Book Award-nominated novel?it?s ?Memento meets Augie March. Didion meets Hitchcock? (Esquire). It is August 15, 1953, the day of a boisterous and unwieldy street carnival in Elephant Park, an Italian immigrant enclave in northern Ohio. As the festivities reach a riotous pitch and billow into the streets, five members of the community labor under the weight of a terrible secret. As these floundering souls collide, one day of calamity and consequence sheds light on a half century of their struggles, their follies, and their pride. And slowly, it becomes clear that buried deep in the hearts of these five exquisitely drawn characters is the long-silenced truth about the crime that twisted each of their worlds. Cast against the racial, spiritual, and moral tension that has given rise to modern America, this first novel exhumes the secrets lurking in the darkened crevices of the soul of our country. Inventive, explosive, and revelatory, The End introduces Salvatore Scibona as an important new voice in American fiction.

🏁WE DID IT! 🏁 Another fun #readathon under our belts! It‘s hard to believe it‘s already over. Time flies when you have your face in a book. ❤️

How is everyone doing out there? Who‘s ready for a nap? 🙋‍♀️ I had so much fun, and read a lot of great stuff this weekend. Thanks to the Dewey‘s team for asking me to hang out once again. Remember that any time spent reading is a win, because YAY BOOKS. Have a great day, littens! 😘📚❤️ - @Liberty

Well I didn't make it to 24, but I'm pleasantly surprised - and pleased- with how far I did make it. Read a total of 2,488 pages. And since I have to be up super early and just finished my 6th book, I figured it was time to stop. It was such a relaxing weekend though and I'm so glad I joined this #24in48! I can't wait for the next one! 📚❤😊 @24in48

So even though there is still some time left, I know I won't be able to squeeze in any more reading time.
Stats for this #24in48readathon:
Time spent reading: 11 hours 43 minutes
Books finished: 1 (Hey Nostradamus)
Books started: 7 (holy ADD issues this weekend!)
The scary thing is I wanted to start reading at least 5 other books, but restrained myself 😅

parttimedomestic I had the same problem this weekend! 😂 I couldn‘t stay focused on one book! 6y

Hi all! I know I have been very quiet. Some of you know the Penguin offices are moving from our downtown home to the Random House building in Midtown. Most of us have to pare down to cubes. Crazy few months and yesterday was the last day. I did not have enough time to send books to my tea&book swap pals. Sorry! I had 26 years of life to cull. Here's a pic of my commute buddies on the way home last night. I expect to be around much more now.

LazyDays Hope you're settling in well!💗 6y

Next up for #signedsunday is this book I got my first year of college at St. John's. I still haven't read it! 😁 The author also attended SJC and I really enjoyed his reading/talk so I bought a copy. Feeling bad that I ended up bailing on SJC a year and a half later, but I still plan to read this book. #autumnreads

#BookNerdConfessions Sometimes I turn to and read the last page of a book to see if I need to break out any tissues for it. Does it ruin some of the surprises? Yes, but it saves me from reading those more emotional parts in public. Seriously, I got teased hardcore in grade school for crying while reading Where the Red Fern Grows in class. I don't need a more grownup retread of that experience. #FallIntoBooks @RealLifeReading

No_One Kids are so mean! It's too bad you have to spoil your books, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do! 😊 7y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Nooooo!!!!! 😱😱😱 just kidding!!!! 7y
Alicia I do this too!!! But also often to make sure everything is ok and know if it is not. 7y

booksandsympathy You got teased for crying during Where The Red Fern Grows? Were the kids at your school heartless? That book is so sad. 7y
Chelsibno @booksandsympathy To be fair, it was mainly just two boys who teased me about it, and these boys bullied me quite a bit in school. 7y
MarriedtoMrT I ALWAYS read the end! Sometimes the last page, sometimes the whole last chapter. Like @Alicia I have to know of everything will be ok 7y
Lmstraubie You are not alone! I read the first 3 chapters or so, then the last one. It lets me relax into the book. I think we all belong to #lastchapteranonymous. @Alicia @MarriedtoMrT @Chelsibno 😁 7y
