Slight but fun collection of memoirs and opinion pieces about Christmas, with a few darker-edged short stories that have more... ahem... meat on their bones. The tale of sweet Timmy the Turkey is hilariously awful, as is a descent into madness caused by a Christmas lunch. As an American, I enjoyed all the British-isms.

pickThe essay parts of this book were my favourite, they had me laughing out loud. I wish there had been more as I didn‘t love the short stories the same way. They had a darker/more melancholy edge, which might suit some people‘s tastes but given the author excels at dry and sarcastic humour I wanted more of that! I listened to the audiobook, which was read by the author herself, and her dead-pan and slightly sardonic way of reading was perfect.
