Life in Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina (Young Readers)
Life in Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina (Young Readers) | Misty Copeland
8 posts | 7 read
Determination meets dance in this middle grade adaptation of the New York Times bestselling memoir by the first African-American principal dancer in American Ballet Theatre history, Misty Copeland. As the first African-American principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre, Misty Copeland has been breaking down all kinds of barriers in the world of dance. But when she first started dancing--at the late age of thirteen--no one would have guessed the shy, underprivileged girl would one day make history in her field. Her road to excellence was not easy--a chaotic home life, with several siblings and a single mother, was a stark contrast to the control and comfort she found on stage. And when her home life and incredible dance promise begin to clash, Misty had to learn to stand up for herself and navigate a complex relationship with her mother, while pursuing her ballet dreams. Life in Motion is a story for all the kids who dare to be different, dream bigger, and want to break stereotypes in whatever they do.

Life In Motion by Misty Copeland with Brandy Cobert is YA Autobiographical Novel that tells the story of the life of American Ballet Theatres first ever African American principal dancer. The novel takes you through the unlikely success story of one of my biggest female role models. I originally got this book to start a book club at the dance studio I work at. It was a big success! So I recommend a lit circle for this text.

Mary_Dehner Here is a resources for lit circles great for this book... http://www.readwritethink.org/resources/resource-print.html?id=19 I would also utilize ESL strategy #28 for this text and UDL 3.1 #UCFLAE3414SU19 5y

Misty Copeland was the first African American female principal dancer at the American Ballet theatre. When she first started ballet no one thought this undersized and underprivileged 13 yo to become a prima ballerina. (Donating these items to a library auction basket featuring female athletes) #tinydancer #marchintothe70s

LeahBergen I would bid on this item. 😆😆 6y
