When the music stops, the dance begins. Seventeen-year-old Penny is a lead dancer at the Grande Teatro, a finishing school where she and eleven other young women are training to become the finest ballerinas in Italy. Tucked deep into the woods, the school is overseen by the mysterious and handsome young Master who keeps the girls ensconced in the estate - and in the only life Penny has never know. But when flashes of memories, memories of a life very different from the one she thinks she's been leading, start to appear, Penny begins to question the Grand Teatro and the motivations of the Master. With a kind and attractive kitchen boy, Cricket, at her side, Penny vows to escape the confines of her school and the strict rules that dictate every step she takes. But at every turn, the Master finds a way to stop her, and Penny must find a way to escape the school and uncover the secrets ofher past before it's too late.

This book has everything I love! Gothic setting, ballet, suspense and a wee bit of romance. Super easy read! If you‘re a fan of Phantom of the Opera you‘ll like this one. It has that vibe to it. #balletread

This fell flat for me. It felt like the characters were being held at arms distance—I never got close enough to be attached or care about their lives. The main plot was sprung too early, which made feel forced into a place of attachment that I wasn‘t ready to be in. The world didn‘t quite feel fleshed out enough to be solid. I love retellings—this one was just too weak. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

So this is my last YA #coverlove. However if the day stays as boring as it is now, I'll be back with some kids books. I absolutely love this cover. When I read the description it makes me think Phantom of the Opera. Why? I have no idea, but it does. #coverlove

rubyslippersreads The description makes me think of Phantom too; it sounds as though there is an "Angel of Ballet" instead of the Angel of Music. ? 8y
LibrarianRyan @rubyslippersreads exactly my thinking. Great minds . . . 🤓 8y
