The Trouble with True Love
The Trouble with True Love: Dear Lady Truelove | Laura Lee Guhrke
7 posts | 6 read | 4 to read
Dear Lady Truelove, I am a girl of noble family, but I am painfully shy, especially in my encounters with those of the opposite sex . . . For Clara Deverill, standing in for the real Lady Truelove means dispensing advice on problems she herself has never managed to overcome. Theres nothing for it but to retreat to a tearoom and hope inspiration strikes between scones. It doesntuntil Clara overhears a rake waxing eloquent on the art of honorable jilting. The cad may look like an Adonis, but hes about to find himself on the wrong side of Lady Truelove. Rex Galbraith is an heir with no plans to produce a spare. He flirts with the minimum number of eligible young ladies to humor his matchmaking aunt, but Clara is the first to ever catch his roving eye. When he realizes that Claraas Lady Truelovehas used his advice as newspaper fodder, hes infuriated. But when hes forced into a secret alliance with her, he realizes hes got a much bigger problembecause Clara is upending everything Rex thought he knew about womenand about himself. . . .

Mehso-so

I did enjoy some aspects of this one, but it felt a bit too shallow, both in its characterization and use of the historical time period. The 1890s are such a fascinating decade and the book didn't really make use of that! It also had a few details I don't like:
1) a woman *finally* realizing her beauty and potential all because a man tells her she's smart and beautiful
2) the assumption that penetrative sex is painful for all women the first time

Beata Ugh no. Enough with those troupes. 7y
Beata Also, you're my new muse for romance novel suggestions. I love romance novels but it so hard to find ones which feature diverse characters. C'mon romance writers! 7y

CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian @Beata aw thanks! Honestly the best romance writers imho are all WOC (Alisha Rai, Courtney Milan, Alyssa Cole) doing awesome at all kinds of diversity. I think the publishers just need to hire more WOC writers! 7y
Beata @CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian So much truth in that. More WOC needed everywhere. I'm excited to pick up Alisha Rai and Alyssa Cole. I love Courtney Milan. Tiffany Reisz is another one of my favorites. She's not a WOC but her books are queer as f****. 7y
CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian @Beata Hope you like them! I'll definitely check out Tiffany Reisz. I haven't read many f/f romance actually? 7y
CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian @Beata wow she has a lot of books! Any suggestions for which one to start with? 7y
Beata @CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian Start with the Siren - it's the first in her Original Sinners series, which has 8 books. A lot of the other ones are either side stories or novellas. She also has 3 books which are more southern gothic novels. They're good but not necessarily romance. 7y

This romance novel from the library has two cracks in the spine from the last person who read it. Guess where both of them are? Right at the sexy parts, haha. #Romantsy

HOTPock3tt Lol! It‘s where the last reader was paying the most attention 😆 7y
Beata They were just trying to save you the work to find the good parts! 😂😂😂 7y
CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian @Beata how generous of them 😄 7y

Going to try a new-to-me romance author! My hold for her latest book just came in at my library. It features 19th century love advice columns, which sounds amazing. #Romantsy

I‘m all about the binge reads lately, and I am having such a good time. So far, this one has been my favorite Guhrke. Low angst, so sweet. Definitely going on my best of 2018 list.

I have a bunch of ARCs I want to read this month. I finished About That Kiss by Jill Shalvis, which I enjoyed very much. Now 1/2 way through the Laura Lee Guhrke historical coming out in January. I'm liking the hero a lot. #romantsy #arc
