This was a well written book about a woman‘s struggle with her sons diagnoses and a difficult relationship with her father. With out much support she navigates these two parallel situations. I enjoyed it !#dogsoflitsy

The good: All of the characters feel real and their interactions are great and often heartbreaking.
The bad: When the characters discus one character‘s autism diagnosis, they often land on and seem to accept the conspiracy that vaccines cause autism.
At a friends get together recently, I had the opportunity to meet Rebecca - my friend is the neighbor mentioned in the acknowledgements - and we had fun comparing notes of books and publishing. As the book is set in Madison, I knew many of the places mentioned in the book and could picture them while reading. I enjoyed the book and look forward to her next one - which she assures me she‘s working on.
Really enjoying this book told from three perspectives, including that of a pre-teen autistic boy.
Won access to galley from First to Read. Hoping to start it this weekend.
Well, I finished it. Brown writes about having a child with autism from three different perspectives: the child‘s, the child‘s mother (informed by Brown‘s personal experience), and the mother‘s father. The problem is that the male perspectives are so underdeveloped that it‘s difficult to read. The book is crammed full of generalities. I had high hopes, but it‘s only redeeming quality for me was the emotional conclusion⭐️⭐️. #arc
When you‘re on page 15 and you‘ve already rolled your eyes four times. Guess I‘m an eager do-gooder by Brown‘s standards 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 #arc
I won this through Penguin Random House. I'm a few chapters in to it now, and enjoying it, so far. 😊
I just finished this ARC about a woman, Piper, who is struggling with her autistic son and is left nursing her mean old father back to health after a near-fatal heart attack. Piper‘s son and father start to form a bond that Piper herself never had with her father. I really wanted to like this one but the chapters written from the son and father‘s perspectives didn‘t feel authentic.

As someone who is autistic, I didn‘t really like the chapters from the autistic child‘s POV. It didn‘t feel realistic, and felt more like stigma. 🤷🏼♀️ After that I could finish it.
