Fatal Throne: The Wives of Henry VIII Tell All
Fatal Throne: The Wives of Henry VIII Tell All | Candace Fleming
The tragic lives of Henry VIII and his six wives are reimagined by seven acclaimed and bestselling authors in this riveting novel, perfect for fans of Wolf Hall and Netflix's The Crown. He was King Henry VIII, a charismatic and extravagant ruler obsessed with both his power as king and with siring a male heir. They were his queens--six ill-fated women, each bound for divorce, or beheading, or death. Watch spellbound as each of Henry's wives attempts to survive their unpredictable king and his power-hungry court. See the sword flash as fiery Anne Boleyn is beheaded for adultery. Follow Jane Seymour as she rises from bullied court maiden to beloved queen, only to die after giving birth. Feel Catherine Howard's terror as old lovers resurface and whisper vicious rumors to Henry's influential advisors. Experience the heartache of mothers as they lose son after son, heir after heir. Told in stirring first-person accounts, Fatal Throne is at once provocative and heartbreaking, an epic tale that is also an intimate look at the royalty of the most perilous times in English history. Who's Who: * M. T. Anderson - Henry VIII * Candace Fleming - Katharine of Aragon * Stephanie Hemphill - Anne Boleyn * Lisa Ann Sandell - Jane Seymour * Jennifer Donnelly - Anna of Cleves * Linda Sue Park - Catherine Howard * Deborah Hopkinson - Kateryn Parr

I thought this book had a great concept; six different authors recounting the lives of Henry VIII wives, another author to recount Henry's side of each story. I wanted to like this book but, I did not. The stories just did not flow. I struggled getting through the stories, the recount of Henry's part felt like it was just a repeat. There was nothing exciting about this book, I would recommend a big pass on this one.

There's “No Way“ you'll wanna miss these reading recs if you've been jamming out to the Six cast recording or been intrigued by the recent morning/late show performances (or been a longtime member of the Queendom). Stick around until the end for a Megasix. https://youtu.be/U-yr09Et59c

I haven‘t read any Tudor historical fiction in a while, although I read so much over the years, so it‘s sometimes hard to find new books, so I was delighted to find this one. This one gave me some Six: The Musical vibes. Great individual narrations that really captured each queen uniquely. It was also interesting comparing their impressions of each other. I especially enjoyed Henry VIII‘s bits of inner monologue thrown in there.

I absolutely loved reading this. I enjoy Royal history very much. Props to these women because there is absolutely no way I could‘ve been the Queen and wife of King Henry VIII. These women were certainly brave and strong and really did walk on the thinnest of eggshells. 2 divorced, 2 beheaded, 1 died of childbirth, and the last one was widowed by Henry VIII.

I am loving this so far!! We hear each of his 6 wives from her point of view as well as Henry VIII‘s point of view. It helps my understanding of what their lives were really like.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Each Queen is written by a different YA author giving this a book of feeling like the personal diaries of the 6 wives. Each chapter is concluded with Henry's view on the marriage. The facts and dates are there but you are more intrigued by the voices and how it must have felt at that time to be in the favour (and then out) with the most powerful king.

A very fitting book for my day out with the bestie at Hever Castle. It was a gorgeous day in the sunshine with lots of history surrounding us and I got to read a few pages whilst sitting in the gardens.

JaneyWaneyB @MellieAntoinette I have really enjoyed this book. Each queen is written by a different YA author and you also have Henry's voice too all focussing on the relationships. 5y

I feel I knew a fair amount knowledge of the wives of Henry before reading this book. In my tween years I was fascinated with this heir- crazed king& the six Unfortune wives. This topic is still my nonfiction of choice. 💙While I know many FACTS from my extensive reading, this book showed they actually LIVED, FELT, and FOUGHT for their lives. Nonfiction is amazing, but this book made these women come ALIVE. My favorite POV was Anne of Cleaves 📚

Fatal Throne expanded my world on really getting to see how women were treated like in the 1500‘s and ho they were disposed for silly things.

What next? Coming of age in Burundi or the wives of Henry VIII?

TheLibrarian Small Country is really good. 7y
StellarDoc @TheLibrarian That's what I've heard! I'm leaning a bit more that direction. I'm going to do some tidying before I dive into another book, though. 7y

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I thoroughly enjoyed Fatal Throne. Reading each account of Henry the VIII and his six wives was fascinating. This is a young adult historical fiction novel, but this was well researched. I couldn‘t put this down and wanted to know more about each wife. Also, I found myself feeling bad for the fates each woman endured.

CouronneDhiver I don‘t usually go for YA, but I think you sold it. Great review! 7y
The_Heeler_Booklife @CouronneDhiver In my opinion it reads more like an adult book. I think it probably is for older teens and adults. 😊 7y

Current read. 😍 Sounds so good. I actually finished my reread of Throne of Glass today and only read 20 pages today. Over the weekend I picked up Fatal Throne and Furyborn because I had coupons I couldn‘t resist from Barnes and Noble.

I have loved both Jennifer Donnelly books I‘ve read so far (and keep meaning to read the others I binge-bought after loving A Northern Light so much 😬) So there wasn‘t much at her table I didn‘t have already, except this brand-spanking new collaboration with 6 other writers (including Linda Sue Park!) about King Henry VIII‘s wives. 📚📚📚
