The Search for the Green River Killer
The Search for the Green River Killer: The True Story of America's Most Prolific Serial Killer | Carlton Smith, Tomas Guillen
9 posts | 8 read | 1 reading | 7 to read
New York Times Bestseller: From the journalists who covered the story, the shocking crimes of Gary Ridgway, Americas most prolific serial murderer. In the 1980s and 1990s, forty-nine women in the Seattle area were brutally murdered, their bodies dumped along the Green River and Pacific Highway South in Washington State. Despite an exhaustive investigationeven serial killer Ted Bundy was consulted to assist with psychological profilingthe sadistic killer continued to elude authorities for nearly twenty years. Then, in 2001, after mounting suspicion and with DNA evidence finally in hand, King County police charged a fifty-two-year-old truck painter, Gary Ridgway, with the murders. His confession and the horrific details of his crimes only added fuel to the notoriety of the Green River Killer. Journalists Carlton Smith and Tomas Guillen covered the murders for the Seattle Times from day one, receiving a Pulitzer Prize nomination for their work. They wrote the first edition of this book before the police had their man. Revised after Ridgways conviction and featuring chilling photographs from the case, The Search for the Green River Killer is the ultimate authoritative account of the Pacific Northwest killing spree that held a nation spellboundand continues to horrify and fascinate, spawning dramatizations and documentaries of a demented killer who seemed unstoppable for decades.

Good Saturday morning...or is it? My book is so done with life it's decided to split in half. I had been mending it for weeks. It's just sad to look at but I'm going to finish reading it! It's a riveting book!

This is an interesting true crime, in that it focuses on the investigative efforts rather than the perpetrator himself. I hadn‘t realized how young some of these women and girls were (many were teenagers, as young as 15), and it makes me wonder if the murders had been framed as someone killing “children” rather than “prostitutes” if it would have been taken seriously more quickly. I recommend the 2004 edition, which completes the story.

I had my second Covid vacc earlier this week and have been feeling terrible ever since. I mean “crying for my Mum” terrible. I‘m starting to feel slightly better now, thankfully. Hoping a bath bomb will make thinks all good again. This one is a Lush Valentine‘s Day special. It had lots of little hearts inside, which I used previously. It smells like Love Hearts 💕 🍬 🍭 🛁 🛀

Now that it‘s Easter Break, I felt that just a bath bomb wouldn‘t quite cut it, so this is a combo of Tropic Relax Me bubble bath, a Body Shop grapefruit bath bomb and Lush‘s Love Boat. The combination smells awesome and I feel like I could go straight to sleep right here. Chance of motivation after this: 0 🛁 🛀 🛌 🚢 🧼 🧽 💣 🌈

For being “the most prolific serial killer in American history,” I feel like I knew nothing about the Green River killer until I read this book. What‘s especially interesting about this is that, when the original book was written, they still hadn‘t solved the case - the parts of the book that talk about who he ended up being were added over a decade later. #liveandlearn #booked2020 prompt - & book 7 of the year so far 😱
