Define "Normal"
Define "Normal" | Julie Anne Peters
4 posts | 25 read | 6 to read
Now in its fourth hardcover printing, Define "Normal" has become a word-of-mouth phenomenon. This is a thoughtful, wry story about two girls--a "punk" and a "priss"--who find themselves facing each other in a peer-counseling program, and discover that they have some surprising things in common. A brand-new reading-group guide written by the author is included in the back of this paperback edition.

I absolutely loved this! A “priss” and a “punk” get put into peer counseling together at school. They end up becoming friends and learning there is more to someone then their outer appearance.

Melkyl I really like this book too. It is not terribly well known, and I always recommend it to my middle school students. 6y
LibrarianJen @Melwilk It‘s definitely an under the radar book and great for middle school! I noticed it got a lot of meh reviews but 99% of reviews are written by adults so I don‘t always trust them when it comes to teenage drama. 6y
Melkyl @LibrarianJen My students who have read this have given positive feedback. 6y
dragondrool We used it for our school Battle of the Books. Everyone really liked it, kids and grownups alike. 6y
LibrarianJen @dragondrool that‘s so great! 6y

Mehso-so

This short read is all about two teens who participate in a teen counseling program. But Antonia soon learns that appearances aren‘t everything. I thought it was ok.

hermyknee Omg I read that one when I was in middle school! It‘s one of the few I remember - Define Normal, Speak, and Crank by Ellen Hopkins. 6y
GirlNamedJesse Oh wow! I definitely read this in middle school! I remember absolutely nothing about it though. lol (edited) 6y

I vaguely remember reading this in high school. I could be wrong but I think I did

vkois88 I've read this one. Twice, by accident. Once many years ago, and once last year bc I couldn't remember if I had or not. 6y
