It was all good but the parts that hit me hardest were when he put together interviews with people who knew him to give a full, dignified, careful portrait of the man Eric Garner was, who wore trainers with holes and stood in the cold with untreated diabetes to make money for his children. Heartbreaking and disturbing but so important.

Truly a great and powerful book that honors the life of Eric Garner.
Warning: There is A LOT of swearing.

Starting to borrow my #newyearwhodis reads from the library.

I'd never heard of Eric Garner until last Fall while I was listening to a podcast last year, Matt Taibbi was being interviewed about how his story about a man getting murdered evolved into this awesome book. It‘s written so well, by interviewing his friends and family that it had brought Eric back to life, especially for someone like me who hadn‘t heard of the case. The humanistic approach Taibbi took regarding the Garner family is powerful.

On my #TBRtemptation list, most definitely, is this exploration of the police killing of #EricGarner.

A powerful, staggering work of journalism that uses a single life and death to look at the weight of America‘s racial history. You cannot read this book without becoming infuriated; it is an essential read on the subject of police brutality and the legal injustices that drive urban ‘order‘.
