Grrrls on the Side | 
panI love the concept of a bi YA book set in the riot grrrl era but this didn't deliver a compelling plot or authentic, rounded characters. The pace also was very rushed. And: it feels like the only purpose of the black characters was to criticize the whiteness of riot grrrl... very necessary but it is demeaning to have three characters in the novel whose only defining feature is blackness and who are only there to further the white girl's narrative.
