Mephisto Club
Mephisto Club | Tess Gerritsen
19 posts | 53 read | 10 to read
Evil exists. Evil walks the streets. And evil has spawned a diabolical new disciple in this white-knuckle thriller from New York Times bestselling author Tess Gerritsen. PECCAVI The Latin word is scrawled in blood at the scene of a young woman's brutal murder: I HAVE SINNED. It's a chilling Christmas greeting for Boston medical examiner Maura Isles and Detective Jane Rizzoli, who swiftly link the victim to controversial celebrity psychiatrist Joyce O'Donnell-Jane's professional nemesis and member of a sinister cabal called the Mephisto Club. On top of Beacon Hill, the club's acolytes devote themselves to the analysis of evil: Can it be explained by science? Does it have a physical presence? Do demons walk the earth? Drawing on a wealth of dark historical data and mysterious religious symbolism, the Mephisto scholars aim to prove a startling theory: that Satan himself exists among us. With the grisly appearance of a corpse on their doorstep, it's clear that someone-or something-is indeed prowling the city. The members of the club begin to fear the very subject of their study. Could this maniacal killer be one of their own-or have they inadvertently summoned an evil entity from the darkness? Delving deep into the most baffling and unusual case of their careers, Maura and Jane embark on a terrifying journey to the very heart of evil, where they encounter a malevolent foe more dangerous than any they have ever faced . . . one whose work is only just beginning. From the Hardcover edition.

Wow. I'm going to take a break from these for a while. Two extremely dark installments in a row. Yikes. I've always known Nephilim to be the race of half human-half angel warriors that protect us from evil. That's not the case in this book. In this book they are the evil. So says the Mephisto Foundation. So basically this book dives deep into folie-a-deux. Creeps me right out.

This book was creepy and I loved it. I always say, the scarier the book is, the better the book will be. I recommend this to all mystery book lovers and for those who can handle blood and gore!

Educational and a tad religious. People ar being murdered and satanic symbols are left at the scene of the crimes. Jane and Maura work on the case and find it difficult to believe a demon is responsible for the murders. This is what the Mephisto Club, dedicated to tracking down demons all over thr world, believes. The club's extermination seems to be the ultimate goal of the killer. You'll never guess the ending. ⭐⭐⭐⭐1/2

In the mood for something dark.

I was disappointed in the eighth Chicagoland Vampires novel so here's to a change of pace.

As a beach girl, I adore this quote....but I think I agree with Rizzoli about wanting to be a millionaire 😉

DGRachel I wouldn‘t mind both...I miss being close to a beach. 7y

There‘s supernatural element added to the plot this time. Satanic worshipping is what the police deduce when they received a call from the house. They thot the victim calling but they know is the perp who call and make sure that they‘re at the 🏠 when he/she call again. There‘re symbols written at the wall. Satanic calling. #suspense #thriller #tessgerritsen

Tess talked about this one at her event at my store a few weeks ago, and it sounded intriguing. I loved it. It made me curious about the characters and their backstory so I went out and bought the first three in the series today. It was better written and less of a procedural than I expected, and I loved that all of the characters have messy lives. Great pacing too. I got 60 pages in and didn't want to put it down.

MarticaMustRead Love the Rizzoli and Isles books!😍 7y

I should have seen it coming, but I didn't! I really liked the main story, although there were times when I wanted to slap Rizzoli and other times I wanted to slap Isles. Come on, girls, you're both smarter than that! 3,5 out of 5 stars!
