⭐️⭐️ I usually enjoy books from Chelsea Lately‘s “Round Table” alum. I fully respect those who are child-free by choice, and would never try to convince them otherwise, so it‘s shitty that Jen has repeatedly experienced such awkward, inappropriate encounters. It‘s also shitty that she attacks mothers‘ bodies as a defense. So what if I have a c-section scar? I also have two beautiful sons. You are not better than me; I am not better than you. ⬇️

Got at the library book sale, seemed like it would be up my alley. Was amusing. But focused way too much on the not having children which I understand is kind of what it‘s about but I assumed it would be more like essays on varying topics. It also irked me she wouldn‘t elaborate on the one relationship ending but maybe she will in her other memoir. I skimmed the last 50 pages probably

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I absolutely loved this book!!! So relatable. I didn't feel alone while listening to this book. I decided at age 15, I didn't want kids. Sometime I feel alone on this and this book really helped me. I used feel guilty about this decision but now I own it. I highly recommend this book if you want a good laugh or you have chosen to be chlidfree.

Sue @mllemay @Bookgirl Don't get me wrong - the societal double standard between single childless men (good for you) and women (are you sure? you'll change your mind) is ridiculous, but it's also dangerous to assume that a woman knows how to mother just because genetics has gifted her with a uterus. 8y

mllemay @Sue completely agree...and it's also quite rude to tell a woman who knows herself and knows that she does not want to be a mother that she should still give it a shot because don't worry, a maternal instinct will for sure magically appear 8y

mllemay @Bookgirl Yes! I think the message at the core of the book (basically you do you, leave everyone else alone and don't be deterred by what other people think) is valuable for everyone :) I bore my teenage sister with similar rants all the time lol 8y

Bookgirl @mllemay Good! They need to know young to ignore that crap. I spent too many years trying to be a perfect mom and a perfect career woman and of course look perfect and on and on. I wish someone had told me what garbage it all is back when I was younger. 8y

mllemay @Bookgirl yes, I feel very fortunate to have a mother (and some rather uncomfortable life experiences) that made me realize all this early on in life - it's very liberating 8y

Bookgirl @mllemay it's good to know people are wising up. Growing up in the 70s and 80s we had feminist moms, but the message of "as a woman you can do anything" somehow got twisted into "you should do everything! And do it perfectly and never need help." That's a lot to live up to. 8y

mllemay @Bookgirl it really is! Honestly, as much as the "you can have it all" message is meant to be inspiring, I just find it stressful lol 8y
