Is the Bible Good for Women?
Is the Bible Good for Women?: Seeking Clarity and Confidence Through a Jesus-Centered Understanding of Scripture | Wendy Alsup
2 posts | 1 read | 2 to read
Is it possible to embrace the inherent dignity of womanhood while still cherishing the Bible? Many people, both inside and outside the church, are concerned that an orthodox understanding of the Bible is threatening and even harmful to women. After all, the Bible has a number of passages regarding women that are deeply troubling and hard to read. But is that assessment accurate? In this fascinating look at Gods work of redemption from Creation to today, Wendy Alsup explores questions such as: * How does God view justice and equal rights for women? * What does it mean to be made in the image of God? * How have the centuries distorted our interpretation of how God views women? * How did Jesus approach the Old Testament and how does that help us read difficult passages today? * What is the difference between a modern view of feminism and the feminism that Scripture models? * How does the Bible explain the Bible to us? Using a Jesus-centered understanding to look at both Gods grand storyline and specific biblical passages, Alsup gives practical and accessible tools for understanding the noble ways God speaks to and about women in its pages and the dignity He places on His daughters.

A round up of lousy Lucys. To Siri With Love earned a dishonorable mention (since I didn‘t finish it) for most horrifying book of the year imo. #worstreadoftheyear #decktheshelves #boycotttosiri

saguarosally This sounds like a trio of books I‘d love. 😅 7y
MatchlessMarie @saguarosally Yikes! I could see how some might get into Grace Eventually and I do plan to try Lamott again but the other two are just ethically wrong imo. One promotes misogyny/inequality and the other ableism, eugenics, forced sterilization. So proceed with caution. 🚨 7y

The title did what it intended which was to attract women of faith who value equality to pick it up. Well played.
In a 🥜 shell:
The Bible is good for women as long as your definition of good is to accept a holy misogyny that says equality in the hereafter is good enough. 🙅🏻
Pro tip for Jesus Feminists: most books on women in the Church endorsed by members of the Acts 29 network are just not worth the aggravation. #90sinjuly #youdrivemecrazy
