This book kept me up at night! Creepy and haunting and dark. Loved this novel of demons and vampires and humans and their complex relationships. The series keeps getting better and better! Book 2 is wonderful ❤️ 📷 labibliotecadecarfax Instagram

I read some good books this month, my favourite was The Making of Gabriel Davenport by @BeverleyLeeAuthor

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. The rising tension was present from the start, but it really kicked in at the midpoint and didn't let up for a moment, right through to the climax (and a great ending that I didn't see coming). I'm glad I hadn't read the reviews first, because there was one thing that came as a total, brilliant surprise. I've not read a horror book for a long time, but I'm diving straight into book 2!
"She dreamed in grey, the colour of misery. The pall bearers lowered her coffin into the ground. She banged on the lid, bloody fingers clawing at the wood. But she wasn‘t trying to get out. She was trying to get in."

My review here is actually not for the named book, but it's sequel (pictured) But Litsy doesn't show it yet!
the sumptuous sequel to the first instalment in the Davenport saga, takes great bounds to expand the world. The shift from 3rd person in the first book to 1st in this one is an initial jar, but one forgotten within 1 or 2 pages due to Lee's masterful command of language. We are in Gabriel's head now, and the way ahead is dark. Magnificent!
'She dreamed in grey, the colour of misery' -
With this dark lyrical line starts the tale of young Gabriel in Lee's haunting tale, but for me, the book will always be just as much the journey of his mother, Beth, who leads us into the dark and foreboding world with these lines.
A tremendous series of modern gothic in the classical style.
What a find! The indie book world is rich with brilliant stories and this was one of them. A dark fantasy that gave me chills. A unique story of ancient vengeance meets modern day with a delightful twist at the end. I was left very much in love with a certain supernatural someone. Beverley Lee uses words with perfect purpose. Book two was greatly anticipated #beverleylee #mustread #darkfantasy #indieauthor #bookseries
Beverley Lee‘s craftsmanship is outstanding, as a debut novel it stands an equal amongst those crafted by ‘old masters‘.
I only ever intended to tiptoe into a couple of chapters to get a taste, but I literally lost hours as rain lashed at my windows; so absorbed from the very first paragraph. I was snowed-in, cut-off, paralysed with fear, cradling little Gabriel, right there with Beth...Terrified!

Such a good book!!!!!! I definitely need to re read this (I've been meaning to do a proper review for ages but I should probably have it fresh in my head to do it justice) 10/10
