I read this one as I waited for the girls during their library program. Momento moris have always fascinated me. Often, a person didn‘t have their photo taken until death. It‘s an odd thing to think about when we are so used to having our pictures taken, sometimes multiple times per day!

Freespirit Wow... 9 days after death is a long time!! She still looks.....alive😁 5y
Centique That is freaky! 5y
Leniverse That‘s heartbreaking. The only daughter. The mother unable to say goodbye. Lovingly dressing and posing her body, to have a photo to remember her by. 😭 5y

While I'm here on this book being my 300th read this year, this is a wild one. WILD. A collection of mid 19th and early 20th century post-mortem death photography portraits, kind of wild. 1st part are the photos, 2nd part are the captions to the photos, 3rd part is timeline of death in America, 4th part is a photo identification guide. Wild stuff. This is book 1, published in 1990, of a three-part series. 💀 perfect fall reading! Check ur library!

queerbookreader Check out my goodreads @ lemonlime799 recently read section to find this listing, which will lead you to all the other books this guy has published (he's like, a historical photo collector and came out with tons of books about this kind of stuff) 7y

Hey look what happened today!! I hit 300 read this year!!! Woop woop. Again, my disclaimer here is that I am an unemployed (have been in the madness of job searching the last three months tho!!) college drop out, so I have a ~lot~ of time to read. And I do read a lot. I also read a lot of comic trades, so these aren't all 400 page great novels or whatever. Many are 150-200 page comics and graphic novels. Be proud of your progress 💝

My husband and I are waaaay into cemeteries (and he does cemetery law for his job), so we have TONS of death books. But my favorite, since I collect mourning and post-mortem photographs, is Sleeping Beauty by Stanley Burns. #junebookbugs

RealLifeReading Ok that is a fascinating thing to collect. 7y

ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled @RealLifeReading So happy to hear you say that! A lot of people think it's morbid, but I just think it's interesting 7y
