I read this one all in one go on a long flight last year - didn't know what to expect; ended up loving it.
Had some Night Circus vibes (though maybe that's because the opening scene is at a circus) - similar time period, similar sense of magic.
Another bail from me! Life is too short to force yourself to carry on reading a book you‘re really not getting along with.
I managed to get almost halfway through The Night Brother, and I felt like it was just repeating the same scenes over and over again. Argue with Mum, Grandma trying and failing to explain, argue with Gnome - repeat. In the end I wasn‘t interested enough in the childish character‘s outcomes to continue.
Getting back into the Libby swing of things with The Night Brother. This is set in Victorian Manchester and follows Edie and her brother Gnome who comes to visit at night. I am trying to read more different kinds of fiction rather than sticking to my usual ‘safe‘ types and I‘m hoping this will be a good way to start
After the haar left the weather foggy and damp yesterday it's another beautiful day in Edinburgh. It's strange to be reading about smoky, dirty, dark Victorian Manchester amongst all this grass and blue sky but so far it's an intriguing tale
GIVEAWAY KLAXON! The Night Brother is out in paperback this week and @RosieGarland is giving 20 copies away on Goodreads. Go, all of you, go. It's excellent. https://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/show/274751-the-night-brother?utm_content=but...
Eeeeeee! I'm a little bit more excited about this because it's Rosie Garland from The March Violets(!!!) than an author following me. How did I not realise that it was this Rosie Garland that had written this book?? I need to get my hands on it and bump it up my tbr but I'm now trying to be good 😭
Very happy that this year saw another excellent book from the ridiculously #talented musician, poet and author Rosie Garland. She really brings out the best in cover artists too. You should know that baby, she's the best. #MoreThanYouKnow #DecDays @cinfhen #SeasonsReadings2017 @RealLifeReading
This is brilliant. As with Rosie Garland's previous novels I spent a lot of the first 50 or so pages thinking "wait......what?!", but that's the fun of it. Beautifully evocatively written, the setting of early 20th century Manchester provides a fascinating backdrop to the intriguing personal story of Edie and Gnome.

It was a privilege to be at the launch of this in Manchester last night. Looking forward to it so much.

An unexpectedly emotional book launch. "This is my love letter to Manchester. It went to press weeks ago." ?
I haven't decided yet if I want to read this—it comes out on June 1st—but I do plan to ogle the cover for a long while!
