THE STORY: Picture a charming home in the South. Into this peaceful scene put the prosperous, despotic Hubbard family--Ben, possessive and scheming; Oscar, cruel and arrogant; Ben's dupe, Leo, weak and unprincipled; Regina wickedly clever--each tryin

A little hard to get in to, but an interesting story about a power struggle between family members over a business proposition. It would be interesting to see onstage, to do the work of the characters‘ underlying emotions, personal histories. Also it‘s unique for its time because a woman comes out on top and will be independently wealthy. There‘s also a subplot about the daughter being a bit more aggressive about her life path.

I've been gone from Litsy for a while. Not by choice, just life sometimes happens. Yesterday I decided I just needed to get out of my brain, so I took a road trip to Demopolis, Al. It's about 100 miles from me, all back roads. It was just what I needed. This town is on the Southern Literary Trail. My goal is to visit all the towns on the trail. I'm pretty close, but still have a few more to go. http://www.southernliterarytrail.org/demopolis.html

ReadingEnvy Oh cool site! I know NC has a similar one. 7y
Laura317 I love this idea! I might borrow it from you. 7y

Today's #independentseveryday: FoxTale Book Shoppe in Woodstock, GA, is a truly special place run by a special crew, The Foxes. Ariel Lawhon tipped me off to their existence & it's now a #booktour must for me. In April I was there with @soozmeissner & @reneerosen_ & had a blast. (If you're in #Chicago, don't miss Renee this weekend at @printersrowfest!) #bookstore #bookstorelove #atlanta #bookstagram #authorsofinstagram #getindie

lynneamch Looking forward to Ariel's I Was Anastasia. I heard her speak and was fascinated by her research for 7y

In planning our upcoming trip to NYC, I so regret I didn't get tickets for Little Foxes! I bought all my tickets about 4 months ago & I couldn't tell then which nights Laura Linney would play Regina. But I ended up with other great shows-- all heavily nominated for Tonys, et al. We had to hire a pet sitter for our little cat who's been feeling under the weather so now I gotta go clean house... but wait...what's that book at the edge of the table?

Hobbinol Oh and that's Lillian Hellman's passport at the University of Texas... #WritersOnVacation 8y

Hobbinol @Booksandcooks I know! She is spectacular! 8y
Suet624 What plays do you have tix for? 8y
Hobbinol @Suet624 A Doll's House Part II with Laurie Metcalf and Chris Cooper, Noel Coward's Present Laughter with Kevin Kline, War Paint with Patti LuPone and Christine Ebersol and Hello Dolly with Bette Miller. Also 3 full length ballets: Giselle, Midsummer Night's Dream and a new ballet with a forgotten score by R. Strauss-- Whipped Cream.😊😊😊Thanks for asking! (edited) 8y
Suet624 What a fantastic selection! What a trip! I'm so impressed with your advance planning. I tend to mostly wing it on trips. You must be so excited for your adventure. 8y
ValerieAndBooks Yay! Glad you'll get to see Whipped Cream along with all the others. 8y
Hobbinol @suet624 Totally! Taking the train out very late tonight! And winging it can be fun too. NYC is magical whether you're ready for it or not. Once when airlines were having price wars, some friends and I flew up just for the afternoon to have lunch and see the Whitney Biennial. $20.00 round trip! 8y
Suet624 "Once, son, in a land far, far away, a plane ticket could be purchased for $20!" Ah, the good old days. ? 8y
Hobbinol @ValerieAndBooks I'm so excited about it I can't stand it! This will be my first time seeing Misty Copland perform live! And my spouse's former student (he taught political science, not dance), prima ballerina Gillian Murphy, will be performing in both WC and Giselle (with David Hallberg). 8y
Hobbinol @suet624 😂it's hard to imagine/remember the early 1980s. 8y
DivineDiana Have a fantastic trip! 8y
Mimi28 Have a great trip! Being from Chicago I am both intimidated by and jealous of New York, lol. Have fun! 8y
Hobbinol @mimi28. Thanks! Hope to get to Chicago next year on my way to visit family. 8y
