7 posts | 6 read | 9 to read
Magic. Wisdom. Community. Misbehavior. For many people across the world, the witch is a symbol of feminine strength and complexity. POWER & MAGIC collects fifteen original comics about queer witches of color as they master their abilities, discover their traditions, and navigate love as beings with incredible power. From the euphoria of holding the stars in your grasp to the sacrifices we make to reach them, The Queer Witch Comics Anthology explores what it means to be a person of power in all its complexity. POWER & MAGIC features the work of seventeen women, demigirls, and bigender creators of color, creating as rich an experience as womanhood itself.

What a great collection! Other comics anthologies I've read didn't have true short stories that stood on their own, but Power & Magic really did! My favourites were "Your Heart Is an Apple," "The Whisperer," "Te Perdi," & "The Shop that Never Stays." There was a nice mix of drawing styles, serious & light-hearted stories, and different cultures & ethnicities. You can't go wrong with these stories about queer witches of colour. #QueerBooks #Comics

#Riotgrams and #PrideMonth combo again for the #SomethingMagical prompt! Here are nine books by and about #LGBTQ creators that have magic, witches, superheroes, and other fantastical things. I'm currently reading Magic & Power on the top left, and it is great: comics about queer witches of colour! Other #QueerBooks lovers have you read any of these? #TransBooks

RanaElizabeth I bought Dreadnought on the strength of April Daniel's twitter, how is it? 8y
CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian @RanaElizabeth I haven't read it either! It's one of two in the picture I haven't got to yet. But the author does seem very cool and I've heard many great things. 8y
RanaElizabeth @CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian I know the sequel comes out in July, maybe I'll have to bump it up on the list. 8y

Bibliogeekery I've read Kissing the Witch and Sub Rosa. Can't wait to hear what you think of the other ones. 8y
whatsjennareading I loved Of Fire and Stars!! 8y
CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian @hrhthebookqueen Me too! The lesbian romance was ADORABLE. And the magic system was intriguing. 8y
CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian @Bibliogeekery Mermaid in Chelsea Creek is a great dark urban fantasy YA and Huntress is a classic Buddhist influenced high fantasy YA. Both are great! 8y
CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian @Bibliogeekery The Beyond comics anthology is kinda uneven. I wasn't a fan of some of the entries but there were some that were really incredible and it's a cool introduction to comics creators that were new to me. 8y
Yamich49 Ooooo I loved Of Fire and Stars and Dreadnought! The others are on my TBR for sure! 😍 I actually have Huntress in one of my TBR stacks and need to read it already! 8y

Very exciting #BookMail!! I backed the Kickstarter for this book ages ago and for whatever reason it took so long time to get here that I had almost forgotten about it! Isn't the cover BEAUTIFUL?? In case you can't read the fine print, the subtitle is "The Queer Witch Comics Anthology." I think I've got to read this this weekend! #QueerBooks #Comics

WhatDeeReads That's a very specific niche. Looks good! Like 8y

Another wonderful comics anthology from Kickstarter! The artwork is fun and imaginative, the stories are unique and really pull you in! I can't really pick a favorite because I loved so many of them. I highly recommend checking this anthology out if you can.
