Very unsettling supernatural/psychological horror mashup that gave me Lolita and Rosemary‘s Baby vibes. Fourteen year old Elizabeth is not your average teenager, nor is her mirror an ordinary mirror. Not when the ghostly Frances talks to her through it anyways.

LeahBergen I liked this one, too. 👍🏻 5y

idk much about this book but i felt like it was heavily influenced by the style of shirley jackson (esp we have always lived in the castle) with a hefty dose of 70s freudian pop psychology thrown in for good measure. this isn‘t a complaint - it has a great kitschy vibe & some lovely spooky moments.

An exhausting week at work means this is my last #screamathon read, but it's another Ken Greenhall banger. Disturbing in its narration and content, this one comes with a whole raftload of warnings. But also? It's great.

“I first came to live with Grandmother about a year ago, after I killed my parents...”

When fourteen-year-old Elizabeth looks into her mirror she doesn‘t see herself, she sees the image of long-dead Frances.

(I‘m kind of excited to read this recently republished, 1976 horror classic. 😆😆)

Every single sentence of this novel is blowing me away. Best thing I've read in a while. Couldn't be more impressed.

Carla I wasn't certain, but I verified--this is the novel I know only as Elizabeth (second-hand paperback, mirror on the cover). Cracking good read indeed! Spooky narrator. Saw Hamilton has written another book, Baxter--have you read it? I'm going to add it to the TBR mountain. 8y
Carla Ah, republished as Hell Hound, I see. 8y
