Miss Boston and Miss Hargreaves | Rachel Malik
4 posts | 4 read | 4 to read
A story of the land, friendship and of secret lives. When Rene Hargreaves is billeted to Starlight Farm as a Land Girl, far from the city where she grew up, she finds farmer Elsie Boston and her country ways strange at first. Yet over the days and months Rene and Elsie come to understand and depend on each other. Soon they can no longer imagine a life apart. But a visitor from Rene's past threatens the life they have built together, a life that has always kept others at a careful distance. Soon they are involved in a war of their own that endangers everything and will finally expose them to the nation's press and the full force of the law.

Travelling to and from Gull Cottage on bus or bicycle, in and out of the shops, the post office, there were more and more signs, more messages, far more than the war. Some of them spoke so direct – CLEVER YOU – and you were sure they must be talking to you especially, but then you looked closer and realized they couldn‘t be – CLEAN YOUR TEETH. Occasionally she felt the person they were talking to was standing just beside her – WIVES!

One review says ' surprisingly touching'. Another 'gentle'. Just what I want to read, right now.

My ambitious #apriltbr. This is not set in stone. I‘m a mood reader, so this will likely change. These are mostly prize list selections, plus a classic for a GoodReads group, a short story collection, some nonfiction, and poetry. I also have a few books left over from March that I need to finish. 😬😬#moodreader #overambitioustbr #needmorehoursintheday

BookishTrish I bailed on the audiobook for Miss Burma and am really curious what you think of it. I may give it another go. 7y
SharonGoforth @BookishTrish Thanks for the heads up! Will let you know. 7y
