Book fair time! Here‘s my haul. The selection was pretty decent this year, although it‘s definitely getting way more crowded (a lot of resellers, apparently).

#Top21of21. Lots of good reading this year. Loved all these books (even Matrix by Lauren Groff 😮 ).My most MOST favourites are An Episode of Sparrows; Ducks, Newburyport; The Street; Wayward, and I Am I Am I Am. Oh, and The Cazalet Chronicles and all the titles in Laurence's Manawaka series.🙂
Thanks for the tag @Ruthiella @Centique @Nute @Graywacke And thanks @Cinfhen for getting it going!
An Abebooks delivery to warm my heart! I‘d been looking for The Greengage Summer and An Episode of Sparrows for a while - blame it on @merelybookish and @LeahBergen and then Justine was coming up on my TBR hit list and @ReadingEnvy reviews of the quartet were so good I thought I should start collecting them. These are all paperbacks but I‘m happy with the condition. (And a biography because who can resist a biography of a writer after all??)
A children's novel about making a garden could be dull, but not when the garden is in a broken, dingy street in post-WW 2 London, or when one of the gardeners is Lovejoy, a girl who prays to be 'cocky and independent', or when all the adults are neither villains nor saints but they do misunderstand and disappoint. This is a book about our human need for beauty and how our perspective shifts what and how we can see. Wonderful on so many levels!
"Put that on your needles and knit it." ???
This is book is an absolute delight!
My purchases from a pleasant afternoon poking around Boulder's bookstores. I even managed to snap up a used copy of the February #NYRBbookclub selection.
#TimbitTunes Day 3: What strikes me the most about this tale is the audacity of Lovejoy to have a #ConstantCraving for beauty, to be happy & carefree. How dare this abandoned young ‘un to even want color, alyssum & African marigolds? Such impertinence. It shows the unlikely triumph of the neglected spirit to rise above mundane things & how disparate the realities are as brought about by huge class divide. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-ho
