The Deepest Grave
The Deepest Grave | Harry Bingham
9 posts | 6 read | 5 to read
British detective Fiona Griffiths, one of the most engaging female protagonists in crime thrillers, is back with a new case to solve. DC Fiona Griffiths is bored. It's been months since she had a good corpse, let alone a decent murder to deal with, and it's frankly driving her nuts. And then comes the news, and she has to literally stop herself from jumping with joy: not just a murder, but a decapitation, with an antique sword no less, and a murder scene that has been laid out like a particularly gruesome crossword clue. Gaynor Charteris was an archaeologist leading a team excavating a nearby iron-age site. Genial, respected, well-liked, it was hard to see why anyone would want to kill her in such a brutal way. But as Fiona starts to dig beneath the surface, she finds evidence of a crime that leads back to King Arthur and his final battle - a crime so bizarre that getting her superiors to take it seriously is going to be her toughest job. Especially since the crime hasn't yet been committed.

This is more of a series review. The Deepest Grave is the last book published and I loved it like I did the others. Bingham has said there will be another but I‘m not holding my breath so I will call this complete, at least for now.
Fiona is a police officer in South Wales, but as a teenager she was hospitalized and diagnosed with Cotard‘s Syndrome. Fiona is different from your average copper and I love her. I also love the ⬇️

Bookzombie recurring characters, especially DI Rhiannon Watkins and DCI Dennis Jackson. I have read some in print, but I highly recommend them on audio because, well, Welsh spellings are sometimes hard and it‘s lovely to hear them pronounced. For example, Gwenhwyfar is Guinevere and Caledfwlch is Excalibur. Book 6 had an Arthurian angle. I‘m sure I will reread this series at some point. #serieslove2023 1y

#Booked2018 #MCwithInvisibleIllness completed as Fiona suffers from Cotard's Syndrome. There's also a bonus supporting character with an invisible illness in this installment - Katie is suffering from Motor Neuron Disease. 5⭐

Another stellar installment in this series. I love how Fiona continues to grow and develop. The choice of crime is excellent and kind of refreshing, and the author's note is particularly interesting (I nearly laughed out loud on the train 😂). If you haven't read other books in this series, there are references to at least book 3, so watch out.

TrishB I‘m a few behind - but loving them ❤️ 6y
rabbitprincess @TrishB I binged four of them last year and just got caught up. My mum is hooked too, so she buys them and I can borrow them 😏 6y

Fiona's pencil holder mug: one side says "grammar police" and the other says "warning: I am silently correcting your grammar"...except someone blacked out the "silently" ??

The sixth book in this series (which may be too scary for me to read! ?) is free for Kindle, and the first book is on sale for 99¢. #kindledeals

DGRachel For 99 cents, I'm willing to give a new crime thriller series a chance! 7y
robinb @DGRachel I'm with you! I couldn't pass this up! I picked up both! Thanks @rubyslippersreads for the heads up! 7y

Fiona Griffith in Harry Bingham's crime thriller novels has Cotard's syndrome and so can be viewed as #insaneinthebrain @cinfhen @Robothugs #90sinJuly.

@rohit-sawant this book has links with King Arthur too, apparently!

RohitSawant Sounds great! Stacked. And thanks! 7y
Robothugs Oh wow! 😳 Certainly fits the category! 7y
