Umberland (Everland, Book 2)
Umberland (Everland, Book 2) | Wendy Spinale
10 posts | 13 read | 15 to read
Gwen, Pete, and the others have escaped from Everland. But the safe haven they hoped to find at Alnwick Castle doesn't exist. With the Queen of England on her deathbed, Duchess Alyssa has stepped in to lead, but things have gotten worse as the cure Doc created for the Horologia virus has mutated, accelerating the disease. The only possible solution he can think of is to go back to the virus's origin: an extinct poisonous apple. Legend has it a tree bearing the apple might be found at the center of a deadly labyrinth hidden deep within Germany. A place that no one in their right mind enters. Leaving Pete in charge of the survivors, Alyssa sets out with only her sword, her wits, and the help of Maddox Hadder, a wild boy who oversees the castle gardens. To get to the center of the maze, she'll be forced to battle monsters more terrifying than her darkest nightmares. But can anyone truly survive the madness of the maze? And what if there's no apple to be found there?

I'm so glad I decided to continue with this trilogy. As I expected, this one was even better than Everland. Alyssa and Maddox are both awesome characters and I'm excited to continue the story.

I love retellings, and this was a good Alice in Wonderland inspired book. I had a hard time rating the book only because I wanted more if the story with Gwen and Pete. I enjoyed the Maddox and Alyssa characters, all the trials they went through to try and end the disease that is killing them all, but I feel like I needed more Gwen and Pete and their love story. I did enjoy the interest that was arising from poor Duchess Alyssa, but now off to Oz.

Life isn't meant to be fair, my dear. A fair is where you go to buy cotton candy, enjoy carnival rides, and pet smelly goats. Life on the other hand, is often filled with the unexpected. Sometimes the cards we are dealt cause us to have to shift our own anticipated direction. And other time fate deals us a hand that we are pleasantly thankful for.

I just finished the audio book for Umberland. I enjoyed it! I did enjoy the first book better though. It might because I've haven't been in a reading mood lately. This book had a lot to do with Alice in wonderland. Also so much more going on in the book. #litsy #kindle #kindlefire #paperwhite #library

✨I stayed up until three am to finish this, just to find out there's going to be a third- or at least there better be. Perhaps I'm bias, but I loved the way everything was mixed and mashed in book two. It seems that Spinale wants to condense her books down, which leads to rushed scenes and chapters that I feel like could have more to them. Still, definitely a good book worth staying up late to finish. 📚

Happy Book Birthday to Umberland! Book one was a Peter Pan retelling and Umberland, Book Two, is an Alice in Wonderland reimagining! Looking forward to reading these. I'm a big fan of retellings!
