Meet Inspector Sejer: smart and enigmatic, tough but fair. At the foot of the imposing Kollen Mountain lies a small, idyllic village, where neighbors know neighbors and children play happily in the streets. But when the body of a teenage girl is found by the lake at the mountaintop, the town's tranquility is shattered forever. Annie was strong, intelligent, and loved by everyone. What went so terribly wrong? Doggedly, yet subtly, Inspector Sejer uncovers layer upon layer of distrust and lies beneath the town's seemingly perfect faade. Critically acclaimed across Europe, Karin Fossum's Inspector Sejer novels are masterfully constructed, psychologically convincing, and compulsively readable. They evoke a world that is at once profoundly disturbing and terrifyingly familiar.

This is second book of the Inspector Sejer Mystery series. I started out of order. I enjoy reading Karin Fossum writing. She can bring the story to life with detail.

If I was going to visit Norway though books, I had to read a #NordicNoir. This was an introduction to Konrad Sejer and his partner on the case, Jacob Skarre. A teenage girl is found dead in this small Norwegian town, where everyone knew the deceased. Sejer is the seasoned police veteran who knows what questions to ask and how to use the information he's given to both solve the crime and determine the motivations behind the actions. The plot ⬇️

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick kept me guessing because I thought I figured it out, but I was wrong. Alhough the town could have been anywhere, the author painted a picture of the small town in the shadow of a mountain and how all of these people's lives intersected with Annie. I could see myself picking up another in the series. The cops were likeable and the case was interesting.

First of the Inspector Sejer series that I read and it turned out to be a real pageturner. Behind the mystery surrounding the murder of Annie Holland, there is a whole story of a Norwegian community and their way of life. There are some dark psychological stories and the end of the book left me feeling uncomfortable.

I think I am going to check out the next one in the series. Picture: Damme, Belgium
