The Ordinary Princess
The Ordinary Princess | M. M. Kaye
8 posts | 23 read | 21 to read
Along with Wit, Charm, Health, and Courage, Princess Amy of Phantasmorania receives a special fairy christening gift: Ordinariness. Unlike her six beautiful sisters, she has brown hair and freckles, and would rather have adventures than play the harp, embroider tapestries . . . or become a Queen. When her royal parents try to marry her off, Amy runs away and, because she's so ordinary, easily becomes the fourteenth assistant kitchen maid at a neighboring palace. And there . . . much to everyone's surprise . . . she meets a prince just as ordinary (and special) as she is! "This delightful fairy tale is sure to please young romantics . . . Neither Kaye's princess nor her book should be considered ordinary." (School Library Journal)

An enchanting fairy tale about Princess Amy (Amethyst Alexandra Augusta Araminta Adelaide Aurelia Anne) who is given a fairy godmother‘s gift of...being ordinary. She has lovely adventures and a wonderful love story.

Yep, I read for almost five minutes today! Plus whatever time I got on my audiobook (no idea, less than an hour though). #24B4Monday is not happening for me this weekend. Maybe tomorrow will go better. On the upside, yesterday I made a nusskuchen (only okay unfortunately) and today I made 203 pierogi and a loaf of Bohemian black bread, plus a small batch of noodles for tomorrow‘s lunch.

Andrew65 Well done on the food preparations. Good luck for today. 😊 5y

I remembered the #ThrowbackReadathon just before I went to bed last night so I pulled some books from the shelves in my reading nook for it, then crashed for the night. Woke up this morning and found an unintentional #bookrainbow on my bedside table. 📚🌈

Not sure how much reading I‘ll actually get done this weekend but damnit if I don‘t have a great stack to pull from without even going to my attic bookcases where most of my old books are!

Eggs Good luck 👍🏻 7y
monalyisha I LOVE Tuck Everlasting! So, so, so much. I‘ve read it recently. Still perfect. 7y

This has delighted me both times I've read it; short and sweet with a feel-good message. Perfect for fans of L. M. Montgomery or Frances Hodgkin Burnett. #jfic #juniorfiction #fairytale

The Ordinary Princess is #thebookthatmademesmile. Not a broad smile that can hardly suppress a laugh, but a gentle one on the corner of the mouth.

"Lavender's blue
Rosemary's green
When you are King
I shall be Queen"

It's a warm tale I love to cuddle with in the cold night. ☺️ #augustofpages #augustphotochallenge

intothehallofbooks I love the cover! 8y

pppooraikul @kaysreadinglife I never read her mysteries before! Do you have any suggestions? I'd really like to try her other works. 😁 8y
[DELETED] 2232195534 @pppooraikul All of her mysteries are 'Death in...' somewhere. It's been a long time, but I remember one set in Kashmir and one in Zanzibar. Her husband was military, I believe, and they were stationed in many locations. She set her mysteries in some of them. And, of course, there is The Far Pavilions, her big, big book. It was very popular years ago. 😀 8y
pppooraikul @kaysreadinglife That's great! I'll start there. Thanks so much. ;) 8y

When a grouchy fairy gives Princess Amethyst the gift of "being ordinary," a charming story is born. • Read my full review: http://bit.ly/2alFGlN

I loved this book! It's about a princess who gets cursed to be "ordinary" by a fairy godmother on her christening day. Hmmm, a blessing and a curse? Could be. No one will marry her, so she runs away from her kingdom and has adventures. And of course, there's got to be a happy ending, right?

Texreader MM Kaye does young fiction? I had no idea!! 8y
TheLondonBookworm I'm curious- what does she mean by ordinary? 8y
[DELETED] 2232195534 I loved M. M. Kaye's mysteries. Didn't know she wrote for kids. 8y
Readaholics @TheLondonBookworm RE: Ordinary is described as mousy brown hair, average features, not unattractive but not attractive either. The rest of her family is portrayer as "classically" beautiful ( blonde, gorgeous, tall, slender, graceful etc). She doesn't make ordinary bad, but extraordinary later on. 8y
