"Too much inclined to passive goodwill" - have you met yourself, Severian??

Thankful for Hoopla and audiobooks today, as I feel like shit but also I need to read this book that Is Not Grabbing me. I won't bail, because I really do want to keep up with Shelved by Genre, but if they weren't covering this book I'd let Severian's space travel remain a mystery.

This is the moment where I leave this book unread. Too much time has passed since reading the first book and, because of my busy schedule, I lost all the connection with the plot. This is not goodbye between me and Mr. Wolfe. I'll come back as soon as I get the opportunity 😢

#Sunshine Pictured: The four Books of the New Sun, the four Books of the Long Sun, and the three Books of the Short Sun.

I've only read the Books of the New Sun and the Urth of the New Sun and they are, without a shadow of a doubt, the greatest science fiction series I have ever read. I'll get to the Long Sun and Short Sun in time.

I couldn't work The Urth of the New Sun into the picture so it's the tagged book. #MayBookFlowers

LeahBergen I just noticed a bunch of books by this author when I was looking through the new arrivals on Book Outlet today. You better go check. 😉 8y
Moray_Reads I read The Shadow of the Torturer when I was at school and always meant to read the rest, thanks for the reminder! 8y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk @Moray_Reads There is truly nothing else like them. 8y

#17rainbowbooks #asunnybook @jess.how This book, man. This whole series.

Leniverse I keep meaning to read that series, but then I end up with one of his other books instead. And they give me fierce book hangovers, so then I need a long break before I can try another. The Fifth Head of Cerberus had me in an otherworldly daze for weeks after I finished it. 8y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk @Leniverse Book hangover! Well put! I couldn't have said it better... Peace left me fundamentally unsettled for days after I finished it. I always say that remembering a Gene Wolfe book feels like remembering a dream. That being said The Book of the New Sun is one of the hands-down most brilliantly written works of literature I have ever read. Well worth carving out the time. 8y
Leniverse I do mean to read them eventually. More immediately I have "The Land Across" waiting to be read, hopefully this month. And yes, Gene Wolfe books do have a dream quality to them. Even when you read them. They mess with your head by doing things that make no sense but seem perfectly right there and then. 8y
Kammbia1 Gene Wolfe is fantastic! 8y
Ubookquitous Yes... Wolfe's books are a bit 'trippy' 8y
