Rebel Bookseller
Rebel Bookseller: How To Improvise Your Own Indie STore And Beat Back The Chains | Andrew Laties
11 posts | 3 read | 2 to read
Renowned bookseller Andrew Laties offers a radical and creative new paradigm for independent booksellers on all sides of the cash register, written to inspire a revival of community bookselling. In his 20 years of revolutionary retail, Latie's ideas were adapted by Barnes & Noble, Zany Brainy and scores of independents. Rebel Bookseller challenges today's bookstore workers to improvise the wildly imaginative indie bookstores of tomorrow, and includes a behind-the-scenes history of the book industry, humorous anecdotes and bittersweet lessons, ten interlacing Rants, and three Rough Rules of Rebel Bookselling Blending adventurous memoir, satire and sharp-tongued jibe, the author dares the chains to sell this revolutionary book.

More consolidation in Publishing is not good news for writers, readers, booksellers, and those who work in the industry. In my humble opinion. https://www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/industry-news/publisher-news/articl...

I️ can‘t recommend this book highly enough. It‘s exciting, informative, funny, honest, and forthright, and I️ can‘t wait to shove it into the hands of bookseller friends. Even having been updated 7 years ago, there‘s so much still so very relevant to bookselling today. I️ found myself feeling very validated, better informed, and empowered, and I️ heartily urge all bookstore owners, managers, and anyone interested in the profession to get a copy!

Leftcoastzen I loved that book ! A lot of great information. 6y
underground_bks @Leftcoastzen I‘m so glad I️ found out about it from a bookseller I️ met at Winter Institute! From the title alone,8 probably wouldn‘t have picked it up, but it‘s deeper and more personal than it looks. Also the endnotes are brilliant in and of themselves! 6y

Any other #booksellers heading to Memphis for #wi13?
Please forgive my very messy bedroom! I'm both busy and full of shame.

Tamra No shame allowed. 7y
Reecaspieces Ok what is wi13. I do not live far from Memphis so what am I missing. And safe travels. 7y
everlocalwest @Reecaspieces #wi13 is the tag for Winter Institute which is basically a few days of bookseller school. It's amazing! There are panels and roundtables for booksellers to share ideas. There are authors and publishers promoting new books. It's a wonderland. 7y

BookNAround Drats! I‘ve gone the past two years but not going this year (although I went as an exhibitor rather than a bookseller). 7y
