Eric Clapton: The Autobiography
Eric Clapton: The Autobiography | Eric Clapton
12 posts | 22 read | 13 to read
Eric Clapton is far more than a rock star. Like Dylan and McCartney he is an icon and a living legend. He has sold tens of millions of records, played sell-out concerts all over the world and been central to the significant musical developments of his era. His guitar playing has seen him hailed as 'God'. Now for the first time, Eric tells the story of his personal and professional journeys in this pungent, witty and painfully honest autobiography. These are the memoirs of a survivor, someone who has reached the pinnacle of success, who has had it all, but whose demons have never left him. Eric tells his story as it is, hiding nothing, with a directness and searing honesty that will make this book one of the most compelling memoirs of our time.

I have had this on my Nook for several years and never got around to reading it.

Mehso-so

For a person who's lived the rock and roll life most of us can only dream about, the book seemed quite mediocre. Terribly self indulgent at points and an exercise in name-dropping people he's come in contact with, than anything of substance. Enjoyed reading about his struggles with addiction and self-abandonment, maybe the only portion which I could resonate with. Read if you are into the blues, pun intended.

This book is about the consummate rock guitarist Eric Clapton. I feel certain that his song “Layla” has been popular at many parties! #heatofjuly #partyrockanthem

Decent, honest account of his ups and downs. Clapton knew everyone, and they all get a mention though rarely more than that. His battles with drugs and alcohol are described unflinchingly though to be honest the last 50 pages recounting sobriety and contentment are about as gripping as that annual family newsletter we all get at Christmas. But recommended if you're a fan of EC or his era.

pocketmermaid Have you read Patty Boyd‘s autobiography? Worth a read to get the other side of the story! 6y
Minervasbutler @pocketmermaid Ooh no I haven't. Thanks for the tip! 6y

#DecDays #WonderfulTonight 🎼 I tend to prefer my celebrity memoirs to be by actors rather than musicians but I like Clapton and I read this one several years ago and enjoyed it. I think it's still on the top shelf of a bookshelf in the guest bedroom but I'm too lazy to go look.😆I do love this song, especially the acoustic version 🎸It's such a great love song.❤️

MissHaych When anyone brings up auto/biographies I always mention Swanson on Swanson. Largely because it's one of only two that I have read. Always go back for a re-read every few years. 7y
Cinfhen Great graphics as always 🤘🏼book sounds good, too❣️ 7y
DebinHawaii @MissHaych I have not read it but it sounds good. I stacked it--thank you! 📚👍 7y

The man who put #cocaine on mainstream radio. I had no idea what I was singing as a kid when I'd belt out "She don't lie she don't lie she don't lie...cocaine" while driving with my mom when this came on the car radio ??#RockinMay @Cinfhen

I've never been much for nonfiction, but these 2 are on my must read list. Genius musicians + stories of recovery? Yes please! #nonfiction #septphotochallenge #musicians
