Jeff Tweedy is a great musician, lyricist, and interview. He‘s no stranger to a good quote. This book is full of them.
Yet it‘s just okay. Some of these songs mean nothing to me; others I‘m in lock step with Tweedy, but for different reasons. Isn‘t that the point though? Don‘t we ALL have our own world within songs?
This was a lovely romance — lush and pretty, with just the right amount of conflict. I could see the issues coming, but predictability isn‘t necessarily a bad thing in a romance😊 The descriptions of music and composition are stunning, and the exploration of music and talent and what it can mean is striking and a little haunting. I feel like Julie Soto is quickly becoming a must read…
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I‘m not really certain why I picked this up right at this moment. Maybe an Audible sale that I decided to get from the library? I‘m often a frugal reader. Anyway, this was published in 2003, so long before his tragic death. Therefore, it‘s not complete, but learning of his tumultuous childhood, how his love of dogs developed, and how he got started musically was 100% worthwhile. DMX didn‘t narrate, but the guy who did has a similar voice.
I grew up with Rebecca St. James music and now my kids are huge For King and Country fans. This book overlaps a lot with the recent movie highlighting the Smallbone matriarch in their transition from Australia to America, but has lots of other reflections and words of wisdom from the mom of 7.
