📘 I like to plan. However, mostly just the big stuff. Too much planning leads to unnecessary stress.
📘 Tagged. Lots of unplanned stuff in this story, i.e. love, death, pregnancy, betrayal, etc. It was a really good story and is part of a series but can be read as a stand-alone.

I would use this in my class to show how differences can make us unique and allow us to be ourselves, even though we might not be the same as everybody else it‘ll be a great learning lesson for everybody

Dark Was the Night: Blind Willie Johnson‘s Journey to the Stars by Gary Golio tells the story of blues musician Blind Willie Johnson, whose haunting song, “Dark Was the Night,” was sent into space on NASA‘s Voyager. Despite adversity, his powerful music resonated deeply, transcending earthly struggles. Through evocative illustrations, the book shows how his legacy lives on as his music journeys among the stars.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I can‘t pinpoint what exactly made it so different, but I thought this book was much better than Soto‘s first (Forget Me Not) in this loosely connected series. This one is still a quick, spicy read, but the characters here feel more grounded and cared for, and so I also cared for them. I thought the final conflict was realistic, and even if the end was a bit quick, it all came together well.
Definitely glad I gave Soto another chance!

I ran across this quote from the book Lukas by Carian Cole. This book is my favorite of the Ashes and Embers series. The depth of Lukas's character was fabulous. This quote hit home for me because I feel people hide themselves behind not only tattoos but also clothes, makeup, and other material things.

The jumping timeline was confusing at first, but interesting. It was the music references and lyrics that had me lost. And the relationships aren‘t the best, even though I could feel Asher‘s love. Why did the thing at the penultimate chapter even happen?? It‘s just so much back and forth. Well written, but not my fav.
