On nights like this, Isbe is reminded that she's inhaling the breath of ancient history, of those who lived and built civilizations and died out long ago... And this is the same air that will be breathed by the great unimaginable tribes of the future. - Isbe
"I will hear no more political entreaties until you have done one thing for me."
Isbe swallowed. "And what is that?" She's been through so much, she's afraid that this last request will be the one that kills her.
"For the love of all things decent, I insist you have a bath." - Isbe and Prince William
I just took another bookish quiz that says to choose your favorite TV Siblings and a book recommendation based on that. The quiz is at this link: https://www.epicreads.com/blog/tv-siblings-quiz/. I haven‘t read this book.
I usually love fairy tale retellings, but this one didn't jive with me. I liked the alternative way of looking at Sleeping Beauty, with fairies, vengeful twins, and accidental love. However, the characters all seemed to stumble through the story in a way that made it hard to engage, with little character development. Sadly, the ending was incredibly abrupt and came off as a cop-out, with lots of plot ripe for the taking that was left unfinished.
Anyone else ever cancel plans to stay in and cuddle their dogs and read? I should be at a Halloween party but I wasn‘t in the mood so here I am reading with my Calli and Zeus. #dogsoflitsy
Yeah I'm sorry. I still really like this book. It's cheesy and sweet and dark
Reread of some Sleeping Beauty retelling! I seem to be one of the few people that like this book but w/e. I gotta refresh myself before reading the sequel
Took me a long time to get into this. Finally made it to about 2/3 through and really finally started liking it. I recommend it, just be prepared for it to go slow, and lots and lots of exposition. Not my style, but it‘s still a decent book.
First, the cover is gorgeous!! The story is a retelling of the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale with a twist. Aurora is mute, and she has an illegitimate, blind sister. Both afflictions are the result of fairy blessings. I liked it. However, there spots where its hard to follow. The author is very poetic, and sometimes while beautifully detailing a scene or a character-developing epiphany, you loose track of whats actually happening in the story.
This has been on my TBR list and it‘s on sale for Kindle this week, so of course I had to get it. 🤷🏻♀️ #BookSale #Kindle
Tbh, I listened to the audiobook but I am so glad I did! It was very good and because I didn‘t have to read it myself, the portions at the beginning before they grow into themselves just zipped by! Otherwise, it would have severely annoyed me.
I really wanted to like this- Sleeping Beauty is my favorite Disney movie and so I had high hopes... and with twin fairies, too, I thought I would love it! But too many narrators made all of the characters developed rather shallowly... it ends on a cliffhanger but this is the end of the road for this series for me... #Audiocoloring
Check out my recent post on my Instagram!!! Cool summer contest happening!😁
I just got a new audiobook app (storytel) and it has a both a great Dutch and English selection. I have it on trial now but I really consider subscribing. Does anyone else use storytel?
Can't wait to dive into Spindle Fire, it sounds wonderful! The book is my sketchbook, which I obviously bought in my hippie phase. #audioanddraw
Read to pg 197 and had to give up.
A retelling of of the sleeping fairytale sounded really interesting to me and it is told in multiple POV's, which I usually like. But in the end I had to bail because it couldn't keep my attention. I felt my mind wandering every time I started reading it.
Maybe I just wasn't in the right headspace to read this story.
⭐️⭐️
"One night reviled, before break of morn, amid the roses wild, all tangled in thorns, the shadow and the child together were born. The bright sun did spin, the moon swallowed day, when one her dear twin forever did slay."

This one is high up on the tbr for me. Have you read it yet?

Who loves a good retelling? 💕
I do, which is why I was so happy to get my hands on a copy of Spindle Fire! It's a retelling of Sleeping Beauty, and I can't wait to start reading it!! 📚
Plus, look how gorgeous it is without its dust jacket!!! 😍😍😍

Who else has seen the beauty that is Spindle Fire's sequel- Winter Glass... it's so pretty we cannot wait for its release!! 💙
Has anyone read this book? I bought it because I love retellings and I haven't gotten around to reading it yet.

I just finished Fangirl and I definitely relate to Cath. I can't wait to buy the book itself.
Honestly, I feel like this was a pretty messy book in the end. The magic and mystery started out okay and intriguing, but as the book went on things slowed down and started to get pretty confusing. There may have been too much going on all at once.
Holy crap! I loved this book way more than I was anticipating. The love triangle was so well done and the sister's relationship that kinda mimicked the villain and her twin was so beautiful. One of the sisters is blind so I automatically thought she would be dependent on others but she takes the lead while you slowly see others less noticeable disabilities take effect. If you liked the Lunar Chronicles, pick this up! I'm excited for the sequel now
I love me a fairytale retelling/adaptation and pretty covers
This is pretty much the story of Sleeping Beauty with all the back story and more retold and spun into a gripping adventure of two sisters who have fallen to fae tithes for certain traits being taken away and added. They are then thrust on great and different journeys. And I'll leave it there so as not to spoil anything. A little slow in the beginning, but it picks up! Keep with it! I'm looking forward to the second one!
I liked this book a lot. Part sleeping beauty, part story about love and sisters. Extremely interesting characters, with cool imagery. Sort of an annoying cliffhanger, which made it feel like only half a book. But I am in for the next one.
A kingdom burns. A princess sleeps. This is no fairy tale.
It all started with the burning of the spindles.
No.
It all started with a curse…
"One night reviled, before break of morn, amid the roses wild, all tangled in thorns, the shadow and the child together were born. The bright sun did spin, the moon swallowed day, when one her dear twin forever did slay."
Continuing my fairytale retelling obsession with this one. The narration is wonderful and the story absorbing. Plus I'll be way more productive at work now haha.
And so it starts (the narrators alternate chapters). I'm intrigued!
The prelude is a poem that sets the tone #fairytaleretelling #SleepingBeauty
This lovely embossed and gilded design is hiding under the dust jacket 💜
This dystopian retelling of Sleeping Beauty has such a gorgeous cover! It's the first of a duology, so I'll wait until the second one is published to read it (otherwise I'll forget the plot!)
There seems to be a lot of fairy tale retelling she coming out now. Dystopian arc may be at its pot of gold.
