Digging for Diamonds
Digging for Diamonds | Cathy Madavan
5 posts | 1 read | 5 to read
With humour and characteristic honesty, Cathy Madavan helps us to discover some treasures of real worth in the midst of our sometimes messy and occasionally crazy lives. Cathy encourages us to dig a bit deeper, to search those gems out and to polish them up, allowing God's truths to crystallise in our lives so that our identity, character and purpose are formed into something beautiful and strong. The treasures of God's wisdom are there to be found. Pick up your shovel; let's dig. "In this gem of a book, Cathy not only warmly encourages us to revel in who we really are, but also cleverly provides a practical aid to help us do so. Which is why I can't recommend Digging for Diamonds enough." - Diane Louise Jordan, radio and TV presenter

"Finding treasure in the messiness of life."

This is the subtitle of this Christian book which challenges the reader to dig deeper into issues of their identity, strength, character, and purpose. Unlike some Christian books, this felt empowering and loving, not guilt-inducing. It is a gift to me right now as I try to accept God's and others' love for me; as well as how I can love myself and others even through my imperfections.

This book has a Christian perspective, but I thought it'd be helpful to any who look to travel hopefully in troubled times:

"We all have the potential to bring hope to people and to places. You and I are called to deliberately walk away from the alleys of despair and disunity, to discern where our efforts and energies can be best invested to make a lasting difference. There is some coal out there that God is asking us to see as diamonds."

"In our church we often talk about the OFM (One Fact More) principle. Only one more piece of information can reframe what we initially see... When we interact with people, watch the news or learn about decisions that have been made, there are always things that we just don't know. Instead of judging superficially, it pays to ask for One Fact More..."

This is a Christian book, but I think this is great advice for all who want to develop empathy. ❤

Texreader I've never called it that but I have tried to practice that advice in principle. Specifically, walk in the other person's shoes before taking their actions personally. 8y

"Don't compare yourself with others. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life." - Galatians 6:4-5 (Message version)

Guess I needed that encouragement today so I'm thankful for the prompt to skip ahead to page 24!
