Feast for Crows
Feast for Crows | George R R Martin
THE BOOK BEHIND THE FOURTH SEASON OF THE ACCLAIMED HBO SERIES "GAME OF THRONES" Few books have captivated the imagination and won the devotion and praise of readers and critics everywhere as has George R. R. Martin s monumental epic cycle of high fantasy. Now, in "A Feast for Crows," Martin delivers the long-awaited fourth book of his landmark series, as a kingdom torn asunder finds itself at last on the brink of peace . . . only to be launched on an even more terrifying course of destruction. A FEAST FOR CROWS It seems too good to be true. After centuries of bitter strife and fatal treachery, the seven powers dividing the land have decimated one another into an uneasy truce. Or so it appears. . . . With the death of the monstrous King Joffrey, Cersei is ruling as regent in King s Landing. Robb Stark s demise has broken the back of the Northern rebels, and his siblings are scattered throughout the kingdom like seeds on barren soil. Few legitimate claims to the once desperately sought Iron Throne still exist or they are held in hands too weak or too distant to wield them effectively. The war, which raged out of control for so long, has burned itself out. But as in the aftermath of any climactic struggle, it is not long before the survivors, outlaws, renegades, and carrion eaters start to gather, picking over the bones of the dead and fighting for the spoils of the soon-to-be dead. Now in the Seven Kingdoms, as the human crows assemble over a banquet of ashes, daring new plots and dangerous new alliances are formed, while surprising faces some familiar, others only just appearing are seen emerging from an ominous twilight of past struggles and chaos to take up the challenges ahead. It is a time when the wise and the ambitious, the deceitful and the strong will acquire the skills, the power, and the magic to survive the stark and terrible times that lie before them. It is a time for nobles and commoners, soldiers and sorcerers, assassins and sages to come together and stake their fortunes . . . and their lives. For at a feast for crows, many are the guests but only a few are the survivors. "From the Hardcover edition.""

Well. So far this is my least favorite. I have trouble enough keeping track of all of the characters without all the new ones added in this book. I‘m really looking forward to the next book, where all my favorites come back! Still a pick though- I did enjoy it overall. Izzy says hi!

It‘s still a pick but perhaps the weakest of the series. Things from the end of Storm of Swords don‘t get addressed until significantly into this one (but when it comes back around WOW) I missed some of our regular POVs &while the Greyjoy/Martell POVs added to the 7 Kingdoms, it seemed like a side quest, could have explained &wrapped up their impact without it.

#ReadingWesteros will return with A Dance With Dragons 6/17⚔️🐉

Roary47 Well said. 💛 6mo
Sargar114 I think I liked this one better upon my first read, I don‘t think the reread did it any favors. I feel as though a lot of it could have been told through our other perspectives. On to the next one! 6mo
5feet.of.fury @Sargar114 yes! 1or 2 new POVs, but ALL those Martells ALL those Greyjoys, Brienne‘s whole backstory… seems like a lot of extra stuff. But there were some good moments. (edited) 6mo

3✨While this was still an epic read it was definitely not my favorite. The characters we follow were mostly new, or combinations of a few characters. Two characters I grew to hate are mostly the main focus, while others I loved from the other books are barely present. Still some big reveals, and mostly interesting storylines. My heart broke for a few characters, I applauded another character for cutting ties, and jumped for joy with another‘s fall

5feet.of.fury I can‘t waitttt to get back to Jon & Dany &Tyrion!!! 🐉 Plan for starting A Dance with Dragons 6/17 ⚔️ 6mo

She is given a robe & taught Braavosi
She asks about Jaqen, the man denies knowing him
She is sent out to Braavos with a new identity, Cat an orphan of KingsLanding

majkia I keep forgetting how young Arya is, to be so determined and independent. 6mo

BooksNBowls Finally one of our OG characters 😅😅 6mo
Bklover @BooksNBowls Me too! So many characters I don‘t know!! 6mo
Roary47 @BooksNBowls and @Bklover I was excited for the same thing. We‘ve had Sam, but finally in a while someone I want to hear about! 😅 6mo

Arianne Martell conspires to crown Myrcella, Gerold thinks it‘s better to kill her but when Myrcella comes they bow, she is unaware why. Arianne introduces her friends to the queen-to-be. Myrcella‘s handmaid Rosalind is impersonating her at the castle.
They reach the boat but unexpectedly are confronted by Hotah. Arianne‘s father was aware of the plot &sent men to capture them. Arys is slain &Arianne is to be taken to Sunspear

Roary47 😢😭 The most heartbreaking part. She said she was so careful, but there are spies everywhere. 😭😭😭 6mo
BethM @Roary47 my question was which one . Also this chapter felt like a whole extra cast of needless characters. 6mo

Roary47 @BethM The majority of the book feels that way to me. Jaime is growing on me though. 6mo
5feet.of.fury @BethM 😂 yeah I don‘t care about any of Arianne‘s friends 6mo
Bklover @BethM I agree! I keep wondering who Are all these people!? (edited) 6mo
BethM @Bklover @5feet.of.fury not going to lie I feel like this book is where he got popular lol. Some of the writing feels superfluous and self important 😂 I‘m doing this because I can. Shut up George and finish the series! 6mo
5feet.of.fury @BethM these chapters are loooong 6mo
Bklover @BethM 😂😂 I agree!! And this including only certain characters in this book and then repeating the same time period with the next book (with the other characters) is weird. I looked this up because I miss Tyrion. And Jon. Sigh. 6mo

Brienne &Pod proceed with Nimble Dick as their guide. Her mistrust grows once they leave the roads.
At the gate, Nimble Dick reveals that the info he gave the fool was false &smugglers don‘t stop there now
Instead of Dontos, they find Timeon,Pyg &Shagwell. When she tells them she is after a fool with a Stark girl, they point her to the Hound. She‘s forced to kill them
She was followed by Hyle Hunt, she says they will follow the trail to Riverrun

Roary47 I wish people would stop underestimating her. There is becoming quite a pile up of bodies. 6mo
BethM @Roary47 agreed. I wish something big would happen for her. With as often as we‘re getting her perspective right now, the story feels stagnant. 6mo

Aeron starts the kingsmoot. Contenders make their claims with visions for the future or gifts. Victarion bides his time. When he does put himself in he says it will be more of what they had with Balon, which pleases the masses. But Asha interrupts &recalls the tragedies under Balon too, she calls for peace with the North. Many call her name whil others support Victarion. Euron makes his claim with a mission to win the 7 Kingdoms -by using dragons

Sargar114 I‘m said my library audiobook had to get returned. Had to read this one the old fashioned way. I really wish we just had the perspective of one character for these instead of jumping all over the place. 6mo
5feet.of.fury @Sargar114 it‘s quite a change to have so many Greyjoy & so many Dorne perspectives & only 1/2 of the familiar faces from the 1st 3 books…. 6mo
Roary47 @Sargar114 I agree. I liked having one perspective verses so many new characters at once. I‘m hoping some really exciting things will happen. I still want to read about our old characters. 6mo

Victarion returns to make his claim. Ralf Kenning is holding Moat Cailin while he‘s away.
With some trepidation at facing his brother, but wanting to preserve the Greyjoy legacy; he tries to ally himself. Some want to end the war
Asha greets him “I am pleased to see you at my queensmoot”, then she accuses Euron of killing Balon. Asha makes an offer to Victarion to back him if she can be his Hand. She wants to ally with the North. He declines

5feet.of.fury It won‘t let me hashtag a squid for all these greyjoys 😫🦑 6mo

Qyburn & SerHarys are promoted
To deal w/Stannis they need a fleet, but need coin. So withhold payment to the Iron Bank of Braavos
She delays punishing Freys for the Red Wedding
She swears revenge on Sansa &continues that Arya is with the Boltons,”if the North must have a Stark we will give them one”&they plot against Lord Commander Snow
Osney Kettleblack will be useful to resolve 2 problems if he deflowers Margaery & is sent to the Wall..

5feet.of.fury There was a ton of plotting &‘ conniving. I had to narrow it down to the things I thought would blow up in her face the most. 😂 comment your fave 😅 6mo

5feet.of.fury @Roary47 Melisandre wants the baby‘s blood for the fire because she need‘s the King‘s essence (in this case from the King Beyond the Wall Mance‘s baby) but it‘s likely Stannis & Melisandre would have seen if both baby‘s went or that no baby was still there and stopped them, so Gilly‘s baby got left behind 😭 6mo

She‘s forced to confess her mission to him, he tells her of Lysa‘s death. With that, she thinks the Vale isno longer Sansa‘s place of refuge

Arys Oakheart has forgone his white cloak to avoid attention. Things are well between Myrcella &Trystane but he keeps her guarded by men they brought from KingsLanding. Doran Martell tells him that Myrcella is in danger from Dornishmen trying to start war.
His lover Princess Arianne -Doran‘s daughter-says Myrcella is more fit to rule than Tommen. She divulges that they have moved Myrcella to hide her from those that would crown her, not hurt her.

Roary47 I was really interested in the POV I hope we see more of this couple. I like the idea of a Queen (that‘s not Cersei) on the iron throne. 😍 7mo

Jaime‘s search through the tunnels did not reveal Tyrion & Varys whereabouts. He warns that the Wildfire reserves are a danger.
This wedding is much more modest. Margaery wears the same wedding dress she wore to marry Joffrey. Cersei wears mourning clothes & seethes at how soon this is.
Ser Kevan discusses Lord Beric hanging the Freys, hears that the Hound joined him
Lady Merryweather tells Cersei her maid is a spy
She burns the Tower of The Hand

5feet.of.fury Fn Cersei 7mo
Roary47 Geesh a kid marrying a twice widowed woman. At least she is kind to him. I agree it was too soon, but it was another arranged marriage. Cersei is understandably upset about Joffrey. She‘s just letting her emotions take over her judgement. I want to feel bad for her, but she‘s getting what‘s been coming to her. 7mo

Tristifer tells her that it will be dangerous there, he wants to marry her & have a dozen sons. He thought she would wait for him, when he presses her she holds him at knifepoint.

Roary47 I‘m not sure what else to add here. I wonder why they are titling some of the chapters with their role instead of their name? It‘s strange. 7mo

Jaime feels the guilt of his fathers death. He hasn‘t seen Varys since helping Tyrion escape. When he went to question the undergaolers they were all killed by the Kingsguard at Cersei‘s behest.
Cersei comes to see him in The Great Sept & She pleads with him to be Hand & they can rule like King &Queen. He declines.
Still upset with her, but he gives Cersei advice on handling Mace Tyrell, but it means rushing Margaery &Tommens wedding

Roary47 I‘m not sure how I feel about this chapter. He helped his brother, yay! His dad was killed because of it, and he cared about his dad as close to the favorite. 😭 He cant question anyone because Cersei is losing it. 😡 He offers his next oldest son to be married early… really early. 🤢 7mo
