Levinas discusses his encounters with those philosophers and literary authors whose writings have contributed to his own philosophy: Agnon, Buber, Celan, Delhomme, Derrida, Jabes, Kierkegaard, Lacroix, Laporte, Picard, Proust, Van Breda, Wahl, and, most notably, Blanchot."

@LibrarianRyan

*YOUR not you 😉🤪

R: Rebecca
E: Elsewhere
B: Black Beauty
E: Eragon
K: Kite Runner
A: Anne of Green Gables
H: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer‘s Stone

LibrarianRyan Damn I can‘t type. I‘ve now read 50+ of these and you are the only one to catch my mistake. Thanks though. I‘ll fix it next time. 😁🤓👍🏻 6y
monkeygirlsmama @LibrarianRyan 🤣 Sorry! I annoy people all the time with my pointing out their typos. I even did it at a job interview a month ago, and the typo was actually on one of their motivational paintings hanging on the wall. 😂😂 6y

My handle came from my Instagram account. I often post a pic of my current book at bedtime with the hashtag bookandbedandtea so when I was signing up here and trying to think of a handle that seemed the way to go.

Thanks for the fun topic @Chelleo

I‘ll play along even though my #LitsyHandle is self-explanatory! This is what I came up with when I joined LibraryThing about ten years ago. I also use it for other social media even though I‘ve only ever stuck with LibraryThing and Litsy!

My dad picked out my name. I‘ve never understood why my name is relatively rare. Valerie means “strong” and I try to remember that 💪.

batsy Didn't know that was the meaning...awesome 💪 7y
Chelleo I‘ve always like the name Valerie (V names in general are pretty cool!) 7y
ValerieAndBooks @batsy 😊💪💪 7y

My first name is Laura. My middle name is Elizabeth - thus Laura Beth - because my family is Southern and in the South, we take double names seriously and I come from a LONG line of double names. I stopped the double naming with my daughter and named her simply Emma (because she‘s my fave book character). But now she WANTS to be her first and middle name (Emma Kate) because “mom - EVERYONE is named Emma! It‘s so unoriginal!”). #litsyhandle

ThatLibrarianLady I‘m actually a Laura Ashlee. The Southern double name game is strong. 7y
julesG As I'm not familiar with the double name thing, does this mean you are always called by your first and middle name? Or does it mean you have three names before your family name - double name plus a middle name? 7y
LauraBeth @julesG typically, it‘s a combination of your first and middle names. My cousin‘s first name is Mary and her middle name is Kate so she‘s Mary Kate. Another cousin‘s first name is Sarah and her middle name is Louise so she‘s Sarah Louise. My mom‘s first name was Martha and her middle name was Sue so she was Martha Sue. So basically, you‘re just being called your first and middle name. 7y

LauraBeth @ThatLibrarianLady yeah it is! 🙌 That is a good, solid Southern double name. 7y
julesG Well, it makes sense. I know some families where especially men have double names, sometimes hyphenated, to keep a very old family tradition. Having a middle name has become a renewed tradition in Germany during the last 20 years. 7y
Quasifesto I have a set of older cousins who embody this southern tradition, with the added twist of rhyming, for the most part. Edna Mae, Wanda Fay, Jimmy Ray, and Johnny Martin. 😁 7y
swishandflick Gotta love the southern double names! Growing up I had a pup named Ellie May 😄 7y
Chelleo My dad was Jimmie Lee, his older brother Freddie Lee 😊 (edited) 7y
ValerieAndBooks My great-grandma was Southern and her name was Lula Belle 😊 7y
BarbaraJean My mom is one of four siblings—she was born in California but my grandparents were born and raised in Indiana. She‘s Betty Ann, then there‘s Billy, Tommy, and Patty Lou. My mom kept her Southern double name, but people here in California always shorten it to Betty. She haaaaaates that. 7y
Laalaleighh I didn‘t realize you were also a southern, double named Laura! (Also, I have had random people who can‘t seem to remember the name Laura Leigh take to calling me Laura Beth my whole life. I even had a great aunt that was convinced it was my name.) 7y
Ubookquitous I'm from a family where the middle name is largely for indicating the you are in seriously Deep 💩 7y
LauraBeth @Quasifesto Johnny should have been Johnny Jay 😀 7y
LauraBeth @swishandflick Ellie May 💕 7y
Lcsmcat I can just hear my grandmother saying “Emma Kate!” It‘s perfect. I was supposed to be a double name (Linda Carol) but my mom couldn‘t make it stick. By the time I was aware she didn‘t even try. 7y
LauraBeth @ValerieAndBooks oh that is the sweetest name! 7y
LauraBeth @BarbaraJean I moved to NYC after college and had a recruiter tell me I needed to go by Laura to “seem more professional”. So I adopted Laura when I was up there and hated it! It‘s like your being called by something other than your name. 7y
LauraBeth @Laalaleighh 😂😂 Laura Leigh is a lovely name and it‘s not that difficult to remember! Although I‘d shorten that up to just “L” and that‘s what I‘d call you 😀 I heard about this book yesterday that was billed as “The Hopefuls Lite”. Could be a good summer read. 7y
LauraBeth @Ubookquitous Oh that‘s the worst 😂 7y
LauraBeth @Lcsmcat nothing disappointed my mom more than when I told her my kid was just going to be Emma and not Emma Kate. So in defiance, my mom always called her Emma Kate and even when she wrote her cards, they‘d be addressed to Emma Kate 😂 7y
Laura317 I only get my middle name when my mom gets mad at me. “LAURA EATON BLALOCK! I mean, AYERS!” Because old habits die hard. 7y
LauraBeth @Laura317 😂😂 I love that being a grownup doesn‘t mean that your mom has given up rights to call you out by your legal name! 7y
minkyb You just cannot win as a mother! 7y
BarbaraJean @LauraBeth Exactly!! My mom always says Betty feels like a different name. I know what she means, because I feel the same way about being called Barb! 7y

Hi, my name is Subashini (Su-BAH-shini) & friends & family call me Suba for short. In secondary school one of my friends was drawing us as superhero caricatures & I was Batman's girl assistant, SubaBat 😂 A smart aleck friend shortened that to Batty 🙄 & a nicer friend said, No, Batsy! and that nickname stuck. I tend to use these names as online handles; left to my own devices I come up with handles like Owl of Minerva 😆 #litsyhandle @Chelleo
