Seven months ago, on a rainy March night, sixteen-year- old Willow's parents drank too much wine and asked her to drive them home. They never made it. Willow lost control of the car and her parents died in the accident. Now she has left behind her old home, friends, and school, and blocks the pain by secretly cutting herself. But when Willow meets Guy, a boy as sensitive and complicated as she is, she begins an intense, life-changing relationship that turns her world upside down. Told in an arresting, fresh voice, Willow is an unforgettable novel about one girl's struggle to cope with tragedy, and one boy's refusal to give up on her.

Today is Willows 4th Birthday. She is without a doubt the best reading companion as she never complains about me telling her the plot of my books. Happy birthday Willow 🐶❤️🎉

Enjoyed this as a teen who was also depressed and cutting herself. Perhaps that's why it had such an impact on me when I was so young. Not sure what I'd rate it now, but I'll just stick with my original review.

There's so much that was horrible about this book I wouldn't be able to fit a comprehensive list on this post....
The story is weak and poorly executed, it's much more preachy than realistic, the characters are pretentious and annoying, etc etc etc.
I hate giving bad reviews for books that deal with this kind of subject because I'm sure somebody sees themselves in and is helped by this story but it's just so bad....

Vexingcircumstance Idk when this was written. But when I was younger I remember feeling like a lot of books supposedly written to help teenagers with different issues in the 70s-90s weren't all that helpful. Most felt judgmental to me and some that claimed to be true stories felt really really fabricated (Go Ask Alice comes to mind). 8y
nrheckel @Vexingcircumstance this one actually felt really modern (and I looked it up-2009), but it does kind of feel go ask alice-y, in that it's written by an adult trying to connect to troubled teens (although the author at least doesn't pretend to be a teenager herself!!) also judgmental is a good word! 8y
Vexingcircumstance Yeah I guess the novels in that vein haven't improved with age. Lol. I will skip this one for sure. I liked some of Francesca Lia Block's books about struggling with different issues. Her have a magical realism flair but still hit me as more realistic than many novels in that sub-genre and not judgmental. 8y

nrheckel @Vexingcircumstance I've never heard of her I'll have to check her out!! That's hard to find!!! 8y
Vexingcircumstance Go for her older books. Echo is a good one and I Was A Teenage Fairy. the entire Dangerous Angels series is great but deals with more vague life stuff. Ecstasia and Primavera are also good. 8y
nrheckel @Vexingcircumstance thank you, I will!!!!❤❤ 8y

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟5/5 was inspiring in my darkest days of depression and self-harming, I didn't feel alone. Cried while reading it ❤️
Willow is strong👊
